NBA Top 10 Rankings (Heading Into Week 2):
1. Houston Rockets
2. Detroit Pistons
3. OKC Thunder
4. LA Lakers
5. Philadelphia 76ers
6. Minnesota Timberwolves
7. Boston Celtics
8. Memphis Grizzlies
9. Cleveland Cavaliers
10. San Antonio Spurs
Summary:
Heading into the season, I was worried about the Pistons due to their contract negotiations with their star center Jalen Duren. Had I known things would not affect their season, I would have been much higher on them earlier. Both the Pistons and Rockets are very tough defensively, and move the basketball in a way I like to see top teams do.
We are in the very early parts of the season, which is leading to teams like Memphis to experience surprising success early. However, the early season can fool us. I don't consider them a top 10 team yet per say, but they sure are playing like one.
Philadelphia has its ups and downs, a lot to address throughout the season. OKC has to show us what they can do despite their devastating injuries.
Teams like the Nuggets have lost their identity. Knicks, Heat, Spurs, Cleveland, and Warriors need to re-establish theirs as the season progresses.
Boston and Minnesota are massive X-factors. You know what to expect but can they elevate their game to the next level?
Two teams to keep an eye on from each conference:
Trail Blazers & Hornets. They're looking solid.
Who is too high? Who is too low? What would you change?
