Electric bills keep rising. Is your state doing all it can?
@ilsr_org’s 2026 Community Power Scorecard shows which states are leaving proven energy policy solutions on the table—including streamlined permitting and plug-in solar!

Plug-in solar could help offset 10-20% of a household’s electric bill. Thank you, Sen. @LizKrueger and NYC Council @SpeakerMenin, for championing the SUNNY Act so New Yorkers who rent can benefit too. ⚡ nydailynews.com/2026/10/18/h…
NJ: plug-in solar signed into law ✅
NY: SUNNY Act still waiting on @GovKathyHochul ⏳

California's legislature just passed two bills that could save families $1,000+ per project on home solar, batteries, and heat pumps — by cutting permitting red tape and allowing remote inspections. ☀️⚡
AB 1738, authored by @AsmJuanCarrillo, gives families the right to request remote inspections... no more waiting hours for a five-minute check! SB 222, authored by @Scott_Wiener, streamlines heat pump permitting statewide.
Now they are on Gov. Newsom's desk. He has until Sept. 30 to sign.
As CA YIMBY's Brian Hanlon put it: California's affordability crisis was caused by a thousand bad rules nobody bothered to fix. AB 1738 fixes one of them. That's how you make things affordable — one dumb bottleneck at a time.

Good news for California families ⚡️☀️ AB 1738, the Remote Inspections bill authored by @AsmJuanCarrillo, just passed the state Senate by a bipartisan vote!
This bill makes it cheaper and easier to save money on your utility bills when you install a heat pump, home solar + batteries, or a re-roof.
HT to @AsmJuanCarrillo, Senator @Scott_Wiener, @AsmBuffyWicks, and @SPUR_Urbanist for getting this done.
AB 1738 is now on @CAgovernor's desk after receiving 68 bipartisan votes in the Assembly, with no no votes, in the CA Assembly!
Must-read piece from @GlobeOpinion! Massachusetts families pay some of the highest energy bills in the country. Batteries have the potential to be a game-changer for grid modernization and energy affordability. Great quote from our co-founder Hannah Birnbaum in there, too, on how home solar and batteries protect MA families from rising energy prices. Check it out! ⚡️☀️

North Carolina just streamlined permitting for home backup power systems like solar and batteries. This means no more waiting on local permitting offices to unlock cheap power and resiliency. Florida did the same thing last year. Now it's the fastest-growing residential solar market in the country. ☀️⚡️
Thank you to the North Carolina General Assembly and Joshua Stein for getting this done. More here! Solar power minus the red tape politi.co/4x79BIH via @politico

Great news out of Florida: the residential solar market is defying the odds and growing thanks to permitting reform legislation passed last year!

Remote inspections didn't just speed things up for CA families; they were nearly free for Placer County to implement, and the county still came out ahead, shrinking its vehicle fleet as inspectors spent less time driving between sites. A new op-ed in the @sacbee_news explains why CA AB 1738, authored by @AsmJuanCarrillo, would bring those same savings statewide. Thanks to @SPUR_Urbanist for your partnership!
