What is the green area? 💀✍️ The sphenoid bone is one of the strangest looking bones in the human body, recognizable by its unique bat or butterfly shape. It’s a structural keystone of the cranium, situated centrally at the base of the skull. It articulates with twelve different bones, bridging the neurocranium and facial skeleton while housing critical neurovascular pathways. The sphenoid bone is widely considered the central hub of modern skull base neurosurgery because it serves as the direct anatomical gateway for endoscopic endonasal approaches to the pituitary gland and parasellar region. #neurosurgery #neuroanatomy #MedicalIllustration #bones #humananatomy

Absolutely a very unique bone For anyone who's watched enough #Rhoton videos... the ethmoid is also pretty cool. For a cup of coffee... Waiting to see your rendering of that @PeterMLawrence1 youtube.com/watch?v=9M06ldIj… @NASBSorg

There’s a new feature in Photoshop which allows you to rotate a 2D image. I think there’s a lot of potential here for medical illustration. When drawing neurosurgery, we often would like to rotate the view of finished a illustration, and I would have to completely redraw the figure. This feature could potentially allow us to simply rotate a pre-existing drawing. It currently doesn’t work well on more complex images, but is pretty reliable with simple, isolated structures, which you can see in this video. This is something us illustrators have dreamt about for a long time... There’s some serious potential with this feature for illustrators #Photoshop #medicalillustration

It was a pleasure to have @louisanicola_, host of The Neuro Experience podcast, visit #BarrowNeurologicalInstitute. Her captivating conversation with Barrow President and CEO @mtlawton, MD, covered a range of topics related to #neurosurgery, #neurotechnology, and brain health. Will robots replace #neurosurgeons? Will the mind's remaining mysteries ever be solved? What does one of the world's leading neurosurgeons do to support his own #brainhealth? Check out the episode to hear Dr. Lawton's insights into these questions and many more. Watch the episode at bar.rw/neuroexperience, or listen wherever you get your podcasts.

The three illustrative cases show: 1) Periventricular lesion location can present w/ intraventricular hemorrhage 2) Transcingulate approach can go between variable arterial corridors (applying some concepts discussed in #7Cavernomas) @PeterMLawrence1

#Throwback: still one of my favorite books—Wendell J. S. Krieg’s “Human Brain in Diachrome” has unique, stunning illustrations printed on clear slide overlays that depict neuroanatomy, tracts, and nuclei. I haven’t been able to find more copies online. If anyone knows where you can get them, please let DM me. Dr. Wendell Krieg (1906–1997) was an American neuroanatomist, educator, and scientific illustrator whose work helped bridge the traditions of classical neuroanatomy and modern neuroscience. Trained at the University of Wisconsin and later a professor of anatomy at Northwestern University Medical School, Krieg devoted much of his career to studying and teaching the structural organization of the brain. A skilled draftsman, he produced clear schematic illustrations of neural pathways and cortical connections that became widely used in medical education. In 1947 he founded the Cajal Club, an international society dedicated to honoring the legacy of Santiago Ramón y Cajal and advancing the study of the nervous system. Through his research, teaching, and visualizations of brain circuitry, Krieg helped preserve the intellectual lineage of Cajal’s neuron doctrine while shaping mid-twentieth-century approaches to functional neuroanatomy. #medicalillustration
