The differences in growth rates results female maturity being delayed by a year or more (top panel). So what? Well, this delay could result in up to a 43% reduction in lifetime fecundity.
And all these differences occurred at plots separated by 100-m!

We found measurable differences in movement rates, space use, density, and growth rates in salamanders occupying mature forest plots and successional forest plots.

This paper has been a LONG time coming (perhaps my most painful review yet). A full lab collaborative project and effort. This paper stems from our local @SPARCnet_Sals survey plots. Happy to see this out and proud of the work by all involved!

So sorry for your loss, Chaz. I experienced this for the first time last year. While the hole is immense and can never be filled, time softens the pain. In July, we felt ready for another companion. Dogs have so much to give.
Come work with us! We’re looking for a field assistant to support research projects on mudpuppies and green salamanders over the next year.

Had the pleasure of a day in the field. Visited some new landscapes and spied one of Ohio’s more range- and habitat-restricted species. We’re starting a project with green #salamanders, so stay tuned for more!
We also found an interaction between elevation and stream distance on survival and reproductive rate estimates from our #SEIPM
