Replying to @LadyVal40757578
@LadyVal40757578 Lady Val Corbett has sadly left us, to be reunited in joy with her husband Robin.
There has never been a greater believer in second chances.
The most inspiring person I ever met and have the pleasure and privilege of actually spending time with her in person.
Lady Val was welcoming and kind to everyone.
She didn't care about your past, except to help you move on from it.
But she didn't just use words, through her actions, she changed thousands of lives, bringing people together and creating a movement for positive change.
Trial by jury prevents so much injustice and interference by the state.
Personally I feel that immense pressure to plead guilty, accompanied by unfair remand, are also as bad as restricting jury trials.
🇬🇧 In 1670, 12 Englishmen REFUSED. 🏴❌
To convict an innocent man.
A London judge tried to break them. He locked them in a Newgate cell for 3 weeks. No food. No water. No light. No fire.
They held the line.
This is the story of Bushel's Case.
On 14 August 1670, soldiers raided a Quaker meeting on Gracechurch Street, London. The Conventicle Act of 1664 had banned non-Anglican worship. The soldiers arrested William Penn, a young Quaker preacher, and his older companion William Mead. The charge: unlawful assembly.
They were taken to the Old Bailey.
12 London merchants were sworn to judge them. The foreman was a merchant named Edward Bushel.
The judge demanded guilty.
The jury returned NOT GUILTY.
The judge refused the verdict. He sent them back.
They returned the same.
And again. Three times.
The judge fined each juror 40 marks in British pound sterling, or imprisonment. They refused to pay. He sent all 12 to Newgate.
3 weeks. No meat. No drink. No fire. No tobacco.
They held the line.
Edward Bushel applied for a writ of habeas corpus. The case came before Chief Justice Sir John Vaughan in the Court of Common Pleas.
In November 1670, Vaughan ruled:
No jury can be punished for its verdict. Ever.
The 12 walked free.
And every jury after them carried the line that 12 London merchants held in 1670.
At the Old Bailey today, their names are carved into the wall.
The stones remember.
They were Englishmen. They held the line in spite of every opposing force.
The British spirit.

We built the world's freedoms.
Charter by charter. Jury by jury.
12 held the line for us.

They were wrong. 🇬🇧
2,300 years ago, Greek explorer Pytheas of Massalia sailed to these islands. He found Cornish tin miners already trading with the ancient world, and Stonehenge, built before the pyramids of Giza. He named us Pretannike. The Painted Isles. Britain.
That's a snippet of who we were. Here is what we built:
🍎 Isaac Newton, a farmer's son from Lincolnshire, gave us the laws of the universe.
⚡ Michael Faraday, a blacksmith's son from Surrey, made electricity usable.
💉 Edward Jenner, a country doctor from Gloucestershire, gave the world vaccination.
🧫 Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin, saving over 200 million lives.
💻 Alan Turing broke the Enigma code at Bletchley Park.
🚂 Charles Babbage & George Stephenson pioneered the computer and the railway.
🌐 Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web. He could have patented it and become the richest person alive. He gave it away for free.
We are the ordinary people who forced the most powerful empire on Earth to end slavery. Not once, but twice:
📜 The Slave Trade Act 1807
📜 The Slavery Abolition Act 1833
Then, we sent the Royal Navy to enforce it globally.
The West Africa Squadron patrolled for 60 years. They captured 1,600 slave ships and freed 150,000 people. 7,000 British sailors died doing it. Nobody asked them to.
No other nation joined them. They did it anyway.🇬🇧🫡
That's a snippet of what we chose to do. Here is what we gave the world:
⚖️ Magna Carta (1215) & Habeas Corpus
🏛️ Parliamentary Democracy
🌍 Common Law, now used by 80 countries and 3 billion people
🤝 The Commonwealth. 56 nations.
They weren't forced to stay. They chose to join.
We are on a mission to bring back our glorious history.
Not to pretend we never did wrong, but to show the enormous amount of right.
Every fact verifiable. Every claim true.
We are Britain. We are mighty.
Every video we make is funded by people who believe our history is worth saving.

Hello, there 👋
Have you heard David Lammy MP and Sarah Sackman MP talking about people stealing bottles of whisky and swiping mobile telephones as examples of people who should not get jury trials?
Well. I’d like to tell you a story.

The UK ending almost all jury trials is a genuine "moment". I feel a "Please pinch me - I want to wake up now." sensation. It's like we abolished the monarchy - & then some. We're led by people who have no interest in or respect for the assembled wisdom of centuries.

These are the 304 MPs who voted to end the right to jury trials.
All of them are Labour. Today is the day that justice died in Britain.
Name and shame them.
Never forget their betrayal.

We are thrilled to have achieved the deletion of a caution from our client's ACRO/PNC, as well as biometrics.
This is after the client had tried and failed to remove this previously and had even paid the full legal costs of a judicial review which was still unsuccessful.

I’ve read the letter 20 times now. State of shock. Just seeing the word CPS on the envelope sent into anxiety spiral, as per, I had no idea it was coming.
They have upheld every single one of my complaints. Every. Single. One.
That’s actually huge.
Truth matters-so much.
