I felt every word of this. Lubna speaks for how we are all feeling.
Watch this.
Lubna Speitan, author of the Greens4Palestine motion “Zionism is racism”, spells out the central obscenity of our age – the grotesque inversion whereby the victims of ethnic cleansing, Apartheid and genocide must constantly fend off accusations from their tormentors that it is they who are the racists.
“We as Palestinians are being silenced and gaslit and vilified [as we] witness the annihilation, the cold-blooded murder of our families, of our people… our children burnt with phosphorus, having to endure amputations with no anaesthetic, having their limbs torn and shredded, their bodies burnt by phosphorus, being starved to death … And to have to sit here … and try to bury my feelings so I can eloquently and diplomatically shield my anger, my rage, my anguish that every Palestinian is feeling, is an insult.” /1

That story about Google killing hundreds of thousands of trees in Finland for its data center project is such a perfect microcosm of what capitalism is doing to our world.
Recent mass media headlines are saying the tech giant "illegally" cut down "250,000" trees, but both claims paint an inaccurate picture of what actually happened. Google killed 400,000 trees (250,000 near a town called Muhos and another 150,000 near the village of Otanmäki), and unless the company's executives actually wind up going to prison for this, their actions cannot properly be described as "illegal".
I don't know who first coined the saying "If the penalty is a fine, then it's legal for rich people," but it certainly applies here. The Finnish Licensing and Supervision Authority has reportedly ordered Google to suspend all “measures that significantly change the environment," saying it will "consider enforcement proceedings and fines" if the megacorporation does not comply. Google's parent company Alphabet has a net worth of around four trillion dollars. Whatever paltry penalties Finland might impose for these ecocidal actions, it won't have any meaningful effect on Google.
Giant corporations do this shit all the time. They calculate that the fines incurred by their abusive actions will be dwarfed by the massive profits they generate, issue fake apologies as needed, and leave it to their armies of lawyers to minimize the damage. That's why the Sackler family is still worth billions despite all the fines Purdue Pharma was slapped with while creating the US opiate epidemic.
A 2017 Harvard study titled “The Opioid Epidemic: Fixing a Broken Pharmaceutical Market" contains the following paragraph:
"Although civil claims and criminal charges were brought against Purdue and its executives, the resulting penalties paled in comparison to extended-release oxycodone profits. In May 2007, the company and its president, chief counsel, and former chief medical officer pled guilty to falsely marketing extended-release oxycodone as 'less addictive, less subject to abuse and diversion, and less likely to cause tolerance and withdrawal than other pain medications.' As part of the plea bargain, Purdue agreed to pay the federal government $600 million and 27 states $20 million. The three executives agreed to $34.5 million in fines but avoided jailtime. By contrast, Purdue has earned an estimated $31 billion in total revenues from extended-release oxycodone since its launch. Rather than deterring fraudulent marketing, the penalties simply became a cost of doing business."
A cost of doing business.
That's how things work under capitalism. The law primarily exists not to protect people or the environment, but to protect the interests of capital. If you destroyed a Google data center you'd probably be charged as a terrorist and spend decades in prison, but Google can destroy the natural world around you and get off with a finger wag and a symbolic fine. If you stole millions of dollars from your employer you'd go to prison for grand larceny, but if your employer steals millions from its employees you need to win a class action lawsuit to get back what they stole from you.
Proponents of capitalism often pretend they support minimal government intervention in civilian affairs, but their entire model is at all times propped up by state power using force to protect the haves from the have-nots at every level of our society. Corporations are free to destroy the environment, destroy your health, rob you, exploit you, and manipulate your government to their advantage, and if you ever take action to stand up to this world-devouring onslaught, the state will lock you in a cage.
In school we are taught that that the law exists to protect ordinary people from bad people, but that's not true at all. Under capitalism, the law exists to protect the very worst among us from everyone else. That's why we are seeing our planet being turned into dust and ashes for no reason other than shareholder profit.
It's an insane system, and it needs to end. These freaks are feeding our entire biosphere into the woodchipper.

"🎙 Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s answer to a media question about the situation surrounding ZNPP (October 26, 2026)
❓ Question: The Kiev regime has stepped up the attacks on the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and the satellite town of Energodar, which fact has significantly destabilised the operation of the ZNPP. How would you comment on these attacks?
💬 Maria Zakharova: The Kiev authorities completely lost their minds and intensified targeted attacks on the #ZNPP and the satellite town of Energodar, which is home to the plant’s personnel, who continue to perform their duties heroically under extremely challenging conditions, as do their families.
Earlier this week, the Ukrainian forces targeted exclusively civilian sites, namely, an art school and the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s fire and rescue unit. Clearly, unable to strike the ZNPP directly, the Kiev regime continues its futile attempts to destabilise the plant’s operations by intimidating its personnel.
Such criminal actions clearly show that the sole true objective of Zelensky and his junta is to multiply the number of casualties and turn the Zaporozhye Region into a barren land of radioactive contamination.
Having failed the test of their own competence, the former actors continue to labour under the delusion that any criticism, or even condemnation, amounts to publicity that can be monetised.
It is time for the Western patrons and sponsors of this deranged clique, to whom they have effectively given carte blanche to get away with any crimes, to realise that they are dumping their money not merely in a failed anti-Russia project, but also in creating direct radiological threats in the heart of Europe, including to their own citizens.
We are compelled to note that international bodies, above all the #IAEA, have reacted with considerable restraint to Kiev’s provocative antics and have yet to muster the courage to identify Ukraine directly as the culprit. Apparently, they fail to appreciate that such spineless behaviour could lead to catastrophe.
❗️ For our part, we consistently bring detailed information about Ukraine’s outrages to the attention of the international public, including at relevant international forums, and spare no effort to protect the ZNPP, its personnel, and the people of Energodar from Kiev’s attacks."

Peace, but not at any cost. This is what they keep putting into Ukrainians’ heads as a reason not to end the war.
I don’t understand: what price could possibly be higher than the one we are already paying today?
Europeans are losing money and feeling uncomfortable. Ukrainians are paying with blood. And the very future of the Ukrainian nation is at stake. If this war continues as it is now, we will pay with our own existence. As long as we refuse realistic negotiations, Ukraine risks losing its independence, its sovereignty, and the nation itself.
Everyone who sells you the rosy illusion of military victory will be the first to leave the country, abandoning the people to their fate. The highest price — hundreds of thousands of lives — has already been paid. Are we ready to pay hundreds of thousands more lives and lose millions of refugees?
The only victory for Ukraine today is a realistic peace agreement that stops the shelling, ends the profiteering from the war, and allows the economy and democracy to be restored.

So, Zelensky and his brilliant Western partners in crime didn’t just sabotage a peace deal in 2022.
They did it again in 2023, condemning hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians to death.
All because of their own narcissism and their conviction that they could defeat Putin.
Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko confirmed that the plan was real.
Here is what the plan entailed:
1. Russia would withdraw its troops from most of the four Ukrainian regions it had recently declared ‘annexed.’
2. The new line of demarcation would roughly follow the front line as it stood before February 24, 2022, leaving Crimea and the parts of Donbas that Russia controlled before the full-scale invasion under Russian control.
3. Ukraine would acknowledge Russian control over Crimea.
4. Ukraine would grant Russia an unrestricted land corridor to Crimea. In other words Ukraine was not being asked to recognize Crimea as Russian territory — only to acknowledge Russia’s control over it. Ukraine was asked to pass a law prohibiting any attempt to retake Crimea by military force.
5. NATO countries would guarantee the ceasefire and provide security guarantees for Ukraine.
6. Russia would begin negotiations with the United States over its own security guarantees.
7. Russia was also prepared to hand over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
8. The $300 billion in frozen Russian assets was supposed to be used to rebuild all of Ukraine, including the occupied territories.

FT reports that in early 2023 an unofficial channel floated a deal under which Putin agreed to pull Russian forces back to the pre-24 Feb 2022 line in exchange for Ukraine dropping NATO membership and recognising Russian control of Crimea (plus a land corridor). Zelenskyy and Yermak reportedly refused even to discuss territorial concessions, believing they could secure better terms on the battlefield.
Mediators say the US also declined to back the channel. Participants later called it a missed chance for a settlement more favourable to Ukraine than what followed.
Now, imagine how many lives would be saved, the energy sector would not be in ruins, the economy, democracy would be preserved if the deal happened back then...

How Zelensky and Yermak Fucked Up the Opportunity to End the War.
In early 2023, after successes on the battlefield, Zelensky and Yermak believed that Putin’s army would disappear like Sauron’s army, according to the Financial Times.
“In early 2023, Putin was ready to return to the lines of February 24, 2022, in exchange for Ukraine giving up its bid to join NATO and recognizing Russian control over Crimea, but Zelensky and Yermak rejected these terms, and the US authorities made no effort to convince them to accept them.
Participants in the negotiations believe that the US and Ukraine missed a potential opportunity to secure peace on much more favorable terms than those Putin is willing to accept now.
Ukraine would have received protection from NATO countries to monitor compliance with the ceasefire, while Russia would have begun discussing a separate agreement on security guarantees with the US.
The Ukrainian counteroffensive that took place later failed to achieve its objectives.
After that, Putin’s demands on Ukraine increased sharply.”

Only then will we be able to create a new political and defense alliance, bringing Ukraine peace, security, and prosperity…

In Oleshky, the elderly wait for bread and medicine while children count the days they have been trapped. The city that once held 24,000 now holds roughly two thousand, most of them old, some of them small, living amid mines, flooded streets, and the daily threat of fire.
I am from the Kherson region. My childhood house stood there, on the right bank liberated by Ukrainian soldiers, until this war took even that. The streets I walked as a girl, the river that shaped our lives, the people who stayed because leaving meant abandoning everything they knew — these are not distant headlines to me. They are memory and blood.
What First Lady Melania Trump @FLOTUS has done is rare and human. She used the channel she opened to return children from hell and turned it toward those still trapped. She secured a localized ceasefire so that aid can enter and those who wish to leave can choose where they go.
No grand speeches. No maximalist conditions. Simply the recognition that people who have already lost almost everything should not also lose the chance to eat, to be treated, or to escape.
In a war that has become a contest of will between leaders, this is a reminder that survival is not a slogan. It is food, medicine, a safe road, and the possibility that an old woman or a child might live to see tomorrow. For that, from someone who still carries the Kherson region in her, thank you.
This is what peace looks like when it is measured in lives rather than maps.
