The Trump administration is auctioning off leases for deep-sea mining over a vast area of the Pacific on November 19—over 31 million acres.
It's not only about destroying fragile life on the seabed. Research published in Nature Communications shows how mining waste can disrupt zooplankton food supplies, threatening marine life throughout the food web—from microscopic organisms to great whales.
Selling off huge tracts of ocean for exploitation with a serious risk of untold damage and cascading effects lasting decades or longer is reckless, ignorant and must be opposed.

Meet C3PO.
Yes, that's really his name. He's a young Canada goose who was hit by a vehicle on September 19 — and he spent his first weeks with us in hospital cage C3, which is how a goose ends up named after a protocol droid.
His right leg was in bad shape. The skin was strippe

Nesting season's over. Birdhouse landlord season has begun.
An old nest is a parasite farm. Fleas, mites and blowfly larvae overwinter in the material and are waiting for next spring's chicks on day one.
Watch the box for a few days before you open it. Bluebirds and Carolina wrens can still be running late broods this month.
Then pull everything out, scrape the floor, and check the hardware. Loose screws, cracked roof, chewed entrance hole. Fix it now, not in March when a bluebird is already house-hunting.
Skip the insecticide and soaps. A rinse is plenty, or a 10% bleach solution if you really think it needs to be disinfected. Let it dry all the way through.
Then hang it back up. A nest box isn't only for nesting. On cold nights chickadees, titmice, bluebirds and screech owls cram into them to roost, sometimes a dozen birds in one box sharing body heat. Take it down for the winter and you've pulled shelter at the time of year it matters most.
Clean it out, then leave it up.

Apart from Stock Doves not many pigeons lay eggs in tree holes .. one that does is the Japanese Woodpigeon (Columba janthina).
These eat mainly Camellia seeds in mature forest, mostly inhabit small peripheral islands, and lay one egg in a tree-hole or amongst rocks #Japan

Patrick Stewart was once filmed dancing and singing on the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D in 1991 as a birthday surprise for Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Though never intended for public release, a copy of the clip eventually surfaced as a bonus feature on a DVD.
Rest in peace 🙏

Nobody told me what the egg industry does to male chicks.
They cannot lay eggs. So hatcheries kill them on day one.
Hundreds of millions a year. Every egg-producing country. Organic, cage-free, free-range — the label makes no difference.
