View above my head seated on a @British_Airways aircraft from London - Mumbai. I don't mind an old aircraft but there is zero excuse for the air vents being full of dust and filth. We pay ridiculous prices for air travel and this is what we get?

I was so lucky to be able to have Danny Kahneman as a best friend and collaborator for decades. He usually ended our conversations with "to be continued..." but I now have to simulate his part which is impossible. My favorite image of us "working".
Yes!!!!!!!! Here's to this phenomenal, fantabulous human being 🥂🥂🥂🥂

In an interview with @abishmathew, @Zakirism breaks down some beautiful poetry on what it means to leave home, to be a #migrant. I wept the first time I heard it and I wept even more as I heard it now given the current atmosphere in the UK.

My little brother has a way with words and I asked him to help me select a few quotes, suggest a few good lines for my #phd Acknowledgements section. Here's what he suggested.
"I’d be remiss were I to not express my deepest sense of gratitude to my family...
(especially my brother) without whom I wouldn’t be half (strike that), quarter of the woman that I am today. Without his invaluable insights, this thesis would be mediocre (at best). He’s the be all and end all. He’s the one. I dedicate this thesis in his honor. Amen."
Being in visa hell makes the last month of PhD writing feel like a walk in the damn park. That's how bad it is friends.
Me and @nihanalb: Hey conference, tell us why you slam the door on folks couldn't make it for visa/health/budget/good reason and why you finally 'allowing' us in still didn't come close to cutting it?
Conference: tkx 4 feedback
We have an uphill battle folks.
Replying to @PoorviIyer
Organising such a large event is very complex and despite the good intentions and extraordinary work by all of the volunteers involved in the event, not everything succeeds perfectly. Feedback is appreciated, and we will try to to our best again in the future.
Read this. The classic suspicion that, of course, 'we won't return home' so no visa for us. Oh the things i've done to try to convince the officer reading my application - emphasise the existence of a husband back home or a life I actually like (unbelievable right?).
I should've been in #montreal now presenting my work on #caste #identity & #normviolation at #ispp23 but @CitImmCanada thought I wouldn't return to #India & rejected my #visa. #inequality in #academia is a huge problem & @PolPsyISPP should address such issues for #inclusivity
Cool cool cool. But all i'm seeing is how they are transforming into elite clubs that refuse to open doors to wider communities, only deepening issues of access. I need to see senior folks wonder about these uncomfortable questions too 🙏

An *even* more basic need would have been a hybrid option for those who couldn't make it for good reason (health, visa). And hey, great WiFi makes that easier, i've heard!
#easp2023krk is over and I'm seeing so many tweets about how great it was. No denying the truth to that, but there's also the not so great truth about how #visa issues were handled.
And here is a blog post by @nihanalb in that should be necessary reading for everyone, especially conference organising committees:

@easp2023krk @easpinfo - I sincerely hope this gives you a chance to reflect on how painful and humiliating the process has been for some of us. I will be in touch. 🙏
