New video essay examining the myth of the "alpha male" and how that false ideal is propagated through popular culture: youtube.com/watch?v=kpvpadX5…
This is private equity, this is what it does.
Buy up businesses, run them into the ground, and rip them apart for short-term profit.
The developers at BioWare know how to run the studio. They know how to make the games we all love. They should be given the first opportunity - and the federal support - to buy it and run it themselves.
And if we want to avoid the Mass Effect effect in Canada, we should be keeping private equity out, not welcoming it in.

This kind of thing is the reason why it's just not a good idea for movies to turn abuse victims into "hysterical" spectacles. It tends to backfire when released into our current patriarchal culture. Also see the "Freaky Nikki" Halloween costumes etc.

The irony of the NFL hiding a video about how they hide injuries
The NFL just blocked my video on YouTube about how they hide and downplay injuries because of a clip I used of Jalen Hurts getting hit and sitting in the blue tent. Curious timing given The Eagles' news today 🤔 My video is still up on Instagram though: instagram.com/p/DeKuDYOSLyD/

The NFL flagged the few seconds where I'm showing #JalenHurts and talking about how the NFL doesn't care about player well-being.

That @PopDetective is actually so honest about the NFL’s treatment of their players. How was this allowed?
#Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, who is out for the season after several blood clots were revealed in his lungs, has been undergoing tests for days.
Before the London game, Hurts was in the hospital until 4 am and did not sleep because sleep was a risk. He played without having slept.

the GTA games are satire but they’re generally really dumb shock jock satire intended more to provoke than anything else. San Andreas ends with a capture-the-flag shooting gallery segment based on the Rodney King riots lol
the grand theft auto games are actually so layered, it’s politically lazy to view the games as just run n gun simulators.

Democratic Congress member Ritchie Torres is introducing legislation in Congress to regulate digital video game ownership.
"A game that can be taken away the moment a company pulls the plug is not a purchase. It is a rental disguised as a sale."

Cowardly but not surprising for Rockstar to hide behind the "apolitical" label while their games are typically brimming with reactionary memes and messages
GTA 6 writer says the series has never had "much focus on national politics" beyond GTA 4's war on terror, and the latest entry won't get "too specific". bit.ly/4i3cXY3
Nicolas Cage says he’s “probably not” working with Amazon again after refusing to sign an AI waiver for #SpiderNoir:
“Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI,” Cage said at #NYCC. “I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it’s like, connect those dots! I’m not a member of their club. I didn’t sign the waiver to let him use AI on ‘Spider Noir.’ I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that’s okay.”

Absolutely dystopian to integrate gambling odds into news coverage. These so-called "prediction markets" are just straight-up gambling sites and need to be banned nationwide.
