New in BMJ Open: after legal recreational marijuana sales began in the West, hospitalizations for heart failure rose nearly 4% for each year of sales, heart attacks just over 3%, and atrial fibrillation just over 2%. That's 50 million hospital records. The authors call for "a cautious approach to legalisation." Marijuana isn't just a mental health issue. It's a heart issue too. eurekalert.org/news-releases…

Anne was told marijuana wasn’t addictive. She quit her job as a physical therapist to work at one of the first dispensaries in Massachusetts. Then it took over her life. Her story isn’t rare. Communities with pot shops see more addiction, more youth use and more public drug dealing. I spoke with Douglas Kennedy for this America’s Newsroom report on @FoxNews about why Question 8 is on the ballot. Watch the full segment. @AmericaNewsroom

The Boston Globe backed commercial marijuana in 2016. Ten years later, its editorial board says: "Marijuana use has been tied to psychosis, severe vomiting, and a risk of dependence." "Since legalization, the number of cannabis-related emergency room visits by children and teenagers has increased." When even the paper that cheered it on admits the harm, the debate is over. thedrugreport.org/2026/10/21…

Parents who use pot are irresponsible. We've tracked more than 350 deaths by pot using parents. This is a result of the bad judgement and forgetfulness that comes with using marijuana. Glad the toddlers the babies are still alive. newsnationnow.com/crime/lexi…

As for the seniors being told use pot for arthritis: THC is an intoxicant and, like any other intoxicant, will dull the sensations of pain temporarily. But it isn't therapeutic and offers no lasting cure or relief. Smoking a joint is akin to having a martini to dull your pain.

Think pot helps you sleep? The science says otherwise. Northwestern researchers followed 1,266 adults for nearly 35 years. More lifetime marijuana use was tied to more interrupted sleep and more time awake at night. Recent users had worse sleep efficiency, and most of them didn't even notice. "Our data do not support the belief that cannabis is helpful as a sleep aid." Dr. Mercedes Carnethon, Northwestern jamanetwork.com/article.aspx…

Massachusetts voters will decide on November 3 whether to end recreational marijuana sales. Kevin Sabet says the vote alone shows how far the debate has shifted, and that voters “got a lot more than they bargained for.” @KevinSabet of Smart Approaches to Marijuana tells @LyndsayMKeith why he thinks legalization’s momentum is reversing.
