So much of every real philosophy or worldview is politeness and etiquette. What's distinct about leftists is how brazenly they rely on and weaponise these things. Ultimately it's close enough to plain sophistry to be rejected outright like plain sophistry.
Someone had a line about truly traditional people not knowing they are traditionalists. They must not know it. Unfortunately the Aristotelians can't help but know it. Catastrophe. Lament. Humbug.
Aristotle would be a perfect philosopher if the world was eternal and all the species and types existed forever. Given the reality of change over time, what's left is paltry. This is a tragedy.
Thomas Reid has this whole thing about the reliability of testimony. It's one of the things you just cant do without. The difficulty is always when to be a pedantic nerd about things and when to be an insightful human. The rule is real but written nowhere.
Testimony is a real part of legal evidence. Maybe we just gotta live with that. Like sure, the Salem witches would be convicted anyway, but maybe thats just the rare case where having laws at all is very expensive.
Why have democracy then? Obviously most people aren't ever going to vote based on 4d geopolitics. If Trump's platform was 'we will do everything to stall China, at any expense to the people', no one would vote for him.
I've always liked you, Matt, but as a Korean, in a country where China's influence runs deep, I find this point very disturbing.

Nearly every barrel Tehran sells under sanctions goes to Beijing.
Add Venezuela.
More than half of its oil exports went to China too.
Together, Iran and Venezuela supplied about 15-17% of China's crude imports.
Much of it was cheap, sanctioned oil, relabeled "Malaysian" to hide where it came from.
Now Greenland.
China controls about 60% of the world's rare earth mining and over 90% of the processing.
Those minerals go into missiles, fighter jets, EVs and chips. Greenland sits on the Arctic shipping routes Beijing calls the "Polar Silk Road."
So what connects Iran, Venezuela and Greenland?
They're three pillars of China's cheap energy and supply chain. Cut them and you raise the cost of Beijing's military buildup without firing a shot at China.
That is America First.
China is the only rival big enough to replace the U.S.
Letting it fuel up on discount oil from America's enemies is not "restraint."
