Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter has claimed that, according to his sources, PlayStation has secured an exclusive feature for its rumoured upcoming handheld device. "There has been some behind the scene discussions that Sony has an exclusive of sorts on RDNA5 for handheld with its mobile device that's coming." In an interview with This Week in Videogames, Xbox hardware execs Carl Ledbetter and Chris Kujawski shared their thoughts on why they decided to make the all-new Xbox Nano controller, despite the fact that controller innovation is becoming harder and harder these days. Ledbetter states that, due to its somewhat cheaper price, the Xbox Nano controller will pave the way to having “more controllers if you’re a family.” Ledbetter also claims that "with a controller in particular, you know, over time, it gets harder and harder to find the areas [where] we can really innovate and try new things. [This is] because it becomes an ingrained input device, [a] sort of a paradigm, if you will. So if we change things too much, it’ll just throw off your experience." “We see it when we, [for example], add just subtle grips in here, people love it. If we change the way the trigger feels too much, they don’t love it. So we have to be really really cautious, you know, especially as time goes by, because there are people who bank on the feel of the Xbox controller.” Kujawski chimes in and adds that, though this wasn't intentional, the Xbox Nano controller has an “adorable” aesthetic charm that he believes exudes approachability. “If you’re not used to using a controller, it’s kind of intimidating,” Kujawski says. “It’s like: ‘Oh, I don’t think of myself as a gamer, [but] maybe I’m interested in playing games and [a typical gamepad] is not for me’. So the benefit of opening this up to like a smaller, cuter form factor [is that it] seems more approachable, more pocketable, [and] more easy to take out and about […] it opens it up to more people to hopefully get them interested in gaming and find some joy there.” Kujawski then notes that people have repeatedly expressed doubts towards him about whether Xbox consoles will continue to exist. “Every time we’ve designed an Xbox, we’ve heard internally and externally [that] it’s the last Xbox – [We’ve had] ‘the last Xbox’ several times in a row,” he says with a laugh. “I think what that says is there is real value in having that console at home.” While Kujawski believes “there’s going to be a place for [Xbox home consoles] for a long time,” he concedes that “probably won’t be true forever.” #xbox #microsoft #XboxSeriesX #XboxSeriesS

Reliable insider Jason Schreier has assuaged concerns about Arkane Lyon potentially being shut down on November 13. He said the following on BlueSky: "Let me share some positive news for a change: Despite all the gloomy headlines today, my understanding is that there are multiple paths actively being explored that would save Arkane Lyon. Anything can happen during negotiations, but at this point I'd be surprised if the studio is shut down. One important piece of context that many people might not realize: Shutting down a game studio is expensive. Shutting down a French game studio — thanks to labor laws requiring an extended severance period — is VERY expensive. Xbox doesn't want to take on those costs."
