My dad was a successful businessman who had everything a man could dream of. Two big houses, expensive cars, thriving businesses, and large money in the bank. But he his only weakness was that he wanted everybody to believe he was the richest man in the room. He bought fleet of cars he didn’t need just to impress friends. He sponsored parties to prove he was wealthy. He gave money to people who secretly laughed at him behind his back. (All for validation) Whenever someone bought something expensive, he had to buy something bigger. Whenever his friends traveled abroad, he had to travel somewhere more luxurious. Even when his businesses started struggling, he refused to reduce his lifestyle because he was afraid people would call him poor. He borrowed money to maintain an image. Sold properties to fund unnecessary celebrations. And ignored every warning from his family. One day, everything went down completely. His businesses shut down. His properties were sold. His cars disappeared. The same people he spent millions trying to impress stopped answering his calls. They knew that there’s nothing left to gain from him. Last week, I saw my father walking home under the hot sun. A man who once owned a fleet of cars didn’t even have a bicycle. I wept in my heart. 😭 MORAL LESSON: Never destroy your future trying to impress people who won’t help you rebuild it.
