Today, on the International Day for Biosphere Reserves, we celebrate UNESCO’s pioneering Man and the Biosphere Programme, launched in 1971. More than 260 million people now live in 797 biosphere reserves across 145 countries. Together, these sites protect over 7 million km².

Inequalities are not inevitable. They are the result of choices. Let us keep choosing to invest in girls' education, protect their rights and ensure that every girl can learn, thrive and fulfil her potential. #DayOfTheGirl
