To be clear, this was:
-Denied,
-Within 6 hours,
-Without asking for briefs,
-Referred to the full court,
-With no dissent from ANY justice.
Even Clarance Thomas looked at this and said “nah stop your bullshit!”

The Supreme Court quickly shut down President Donald Trump's effort to force California to sideline potentially thousands of ballots that the Justice Department claims may have been cast by noncitizens, rejecting the administration's emergency request hours after it was filed. cnn.it/3WpAfz2

In a vacuum, an emergency election-related request from the federal government is the sort of thing that SCOTUS typically would take very seriously. A terse, 9-0 order denying such a request, without even getting the other side's response, is the court's way of sending a message.

BREAKING: In an unprecedented comeback, Brazil's President Lula da Silva has defeated Flavio Bolsonaro, securing a 4th term in office.
Lula is officially the first presidential candidate in Brazil's modern democratic history to lose the first round of voting and go on to win the runoff.
Prior to the election, Lula's implied odds of victory had fallen as low as 10%.
This marks one of the most remarkable political comebacks in Brazil's history.

The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

🇱🇰 CIABOC'S PUBLIC ACCESS PORTAL FOR ASSET DECLARATIONS NOW UNDER MAINTENANCE
⭕ The public asset declaration portal (public.ciaboc.gov.lk/) launched by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) is currently unavailable, with the website displaying an "Under Maintenance" notice.
⭕ This was not the case a few days ago when we published our write-up raising concerns that the public could access detailed personal financial information, including that of non-politically exposed persons and lower-ranking public officials.
⭕ Perhaps the Commission is now reviewing the system after realising that too much information was being disclosed. If that is the case, it would be a welcome development.
⭕ Hopefully, the Commission will find the right balance between transparency, accountability and individual privacy. The public's right to scrutinise wealth should not come at the expense of unnecessarily exposing people's private lives.

Read how the legal team of Anojan Sivarasa got his death sentence in Saudi Arabia set aside. To begin with, his lawyers argued successfully—among other legal points—that his original confession to insulting the Prophet Muhammad was “ambiguous”.
The confession, recorded in the 2nd Circuit of the Al-Ahsa Criminal Court, read in Arabic that Mr Sivarasa admitted to “insulting our Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)” (peace be upon him). His lawyers argued that Mr Sivarasa would not say these words, as he was a Hindu and that the confession was therefore not his but that of his translator.
The rest of the arguments are equally brilliant. #SriLanka #SaudiArabia #capitalpunishment

I welcome the decision by the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia to set aside the death sentence imposed on Sri Lankan national Anojan Sivarasa.
This brings immense relief to Anojan, his family, and all Sri Lankans who have followed his case with deep concern. It reflects the value of patient diplomacy, respect for the legal processes of a friendly nation, and the tireless work of those who stood by a Sri Lankan citizen abroad.
I express my sincere appreciation to the Government of Saudi Arabia for this outcome. I also thank the many Saudi Arabian and Sri Lankan diplomats, civil servants and legal teams for their dedicated efforts.
My Government will continue to extend all necessary support to Anojan and his family as the remaining legal processes conclude. No Sri Lankan who leaves our shores in search of a livelihood should ever feel that they stand alone.
