Does anyone have any good recs that are easy to read but have a great story?!

Everyone will have different feelings about what makes a book easy to read, but I think anything in the "cozy" category tends to lead to easier reading! Horror: "Horrorstör" by Grady Hendrix was a quick and easy read if you enjoy horror. I found the ending satisfying! Science Fiction: "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams is a bonkers but easy read for the first few books. Hank Green's "An Absolutely Remarkable Thing" is also a great read for an easier sci-fi book! These both tackle some heavy topics while keeping the reading accessible. Romance: "The Bookish Life of Nina Hill" by Abbi Waxman was a cute read! Mystery: There are tons of cozy mysteries you can dive into, but Donna Andrews ' "Meg Langslow" series is a fun read! Fantasy: There are so many phenomenal fantasy series in the juvenile and young adult categories that don't get enough credit for keeping the message accessible while also being great reads: "The Beyonders" by Brandon Mull, "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness (more horror), "Percy Jackson" series by Rick Riordan, "Mistborn" by Brandon Sanderson, "Scythe" by Neal Shusterman. The list goes on. Nonfiction: I love the "Infographic Guide" books. "The Infographic Guide to Personal Finance" by Elisabeth Lariviere and Michele Cagan is a book everyone should be given as they're getting their first job. It is comprehensive without being overwhelming.

My 10-year-old is a voracious reader, and I can’t keep her Kindle stocked! Series suggestions, please! She has already enjoyed these series: “The Princess Academy”, “Ella Enchanted”, “The Saddle Club”, and “Pennyroyal Academy”.

"Dealing with Dragons" by Patricia Wrede was one of my favorite princess books when I was little. It's about a princess who runs away from home to save a dragon from knights. I've heard good things about "A Tale of Two Castles" by Gail Carson Levine. Readers who enjoyed "The Saddle Club" often like the "Canterwood Crest" series by Jessica Burkhart. I hope your daughter enjoys it!

Are you a fast reader or a slow reader?

It might seem contradictory given how many books I get through, but I consider myself a slow physical reader. With audiobooks, I often read anywhere from 1.25-2X speed, so I can tear through higher "page counts." However, spatial descriptions can slow me down and require me to relisten multiple times to visualize the author's details. I'm trying to get back into physical reading, since I find it easier to dwell on descriptions and arguments with physical media.

How far are you in your yearly reading goal?

I don't typically set a yearly reading goal, but I do like to make it through a couple of books a month. I go through bursts of reading a bunch in a cluster, then often pause for a week and return to a different set. This month, I'm rocking it, and I hope you're enjoying tackling yours!

Craving a book I can’t put down... psychological thriller recs?

I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but "The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides has been on my TBR list for a long time. If the book is anything like the movie, I want to read "Shutter Island" by Dennis Lehane, which has a great twist! Both books, "Saltwater" by Katy Hays, a slow-burn psychological horror, and "The Sanatorium" by Sarah Pearse, are on my TBR too!

Do you like to read one book or multiple books at a time?

Once upon a time, I read one book at a time. Now, I find myself tangled amongst three to six. I do a mix of audiobooks and physical books, so I'm frequently hopping between titles, especially from nonfiction to fiction.

This Monday, October 26, at 7:00 p.m., I'm excited to attend the Read by Dawn horror fiction book club hosted virtually by Haymarket Gainesville's horror-master librarian (pwcgov.libnet.info/event/145…). They're doing "Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng" by Kylie Lee Baker, which has become one of my favorite books of the year.

I just finished "Incidents Around the House" by Josh Malerman, recommended to me by our library system's horror expert over at Haymarket Gainesville. It is a delightfully disturbing little book about a creature known as "Other Mother" and will be turned into a motion picture soon! I also just finished "Horrorstör" by Grady Hendrix, which is a kitchy book about a haunting at a place that definitely isn't IKEA. I'm about to start rereading "Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng" by Kylie Lee Baker and "1984" by George Orwell for two different book clubs!
