The absolute best just speaks so much sense and not up his own. Cannot wait for the players one πΏ
Iβve been thinking about the lack of accountability at Derby and how differently football clubs seem to operate from other businesses. A listed company underperforms? The CEO is questioned. A water company is badly mismanaged? Likewise. Clowes owns Derby, but the CEO runs it. 1/2
I think itβs because football is judged on results on the pitch. Those results are shaped by decisions made off it. Recruitment, appointments, strategy and structure all start at the top. You canβt keep blaming the consequences while ignoring the cause. He needs to go! 2/2

The puppeteer lurking in the shadows is Stephen Pearce.
He is the central problem, the man pulling the strings behind many of the club's biggest failures. David Clowes has effectively entrusted the running of the club to Pearce, seemingly ignoring the chaos and damage that he and Mel Morris helped create in the first place.
The most alarming aspect is that Pearce has no meaningful football credentials, yet he continues to exert enormous influence over football decisions. A football club is not a data project, but Pearce appears determined to run it as if it were a spreadsheet. Recruitment is disjointed, the medical department has become a recurring concern, and the squad has been littered either with unproven long-term gambles or players who are well past their best.
His judgement has been questionable at every turn. Last summer he terminated Steve Round's contract, claiming the club could not afford him. Yet Round was one of the few proven football operators at the club, bringing elite experience and providing crucial support to John Eustace. His contribution helped deliver an 8th-place finish against the odds, but Pearce chose to dispense with that expertise.
The evidence is there for all to see. Standards have declined, mistakes continue to mount, and accountability remains absent. Stephen Pearce is no longer just part of the problem; he has become the embodiment of it. His influence has been deeply damaging to the club, and if Derby County are serious about moving forward, his position should be untenable.
Don't forget....... Pearce has outlasted managers, survived failures, and escaped scrutiny, but the club's decline follows him like a shadow. At some point, supporters have to stop asking who is making the decisions and start asking why Stephen Pearce is still allowed to make them. The answer to many of Derby County's problems begins with him, and so should the solution.
