This is fake news and manufactured outrage. A simple drive down Adderley Street would show you the truth. No decision has been made to remove Christian or religious symbolism from the Festive Lights; in fact, angels, Mary and baby Jesus feature as part of the different elements this year.
Each year, the Festive Lights are themed to incorporate things that represent Cape Town and its iconic landscapes and distinguishing features (mountain, penguins, Klopse, wings, bells etc). The theme for the past few years has been United in Hope, and there have been tweaks year-on-year to update the Lights.
Those trying to spread fake news on this are charlatans and should not be trusted.

I'd love to know the story behind the one EFF vote in Orania...
'You'll be a hip hop dancer over my dead body, Hendrick!'
'I'm 18 now, Pa! I can be whoever I want to be!'
'You get back in this house right now!'
*angry dancing*
'I'm going to vote and you can't stop me!'

Listening to #Mayor @geordinhl talking to @CityofCT staff about the concept of #innovation. How wonderful when a #government strives to break the mould, take chances and be better. Love it!
Finally get to engage face to face with my fellow municipal communicators across #SouthAfrica. Great to be welcomed by deputy mayor @AndrewsEddie. Welcome to @CityofCT, delegates! #SALGANCF6

When you're spelling out your email address to someone and they ask, 'is that one word'? When is it ever not? When are there ever spaces in an email address. No man. #thingsthatirk

In memoriam: a most magnificent sari 🥻 was folded today. The elegant, monumental, sometimes imperious, always super-nova Speaker and journalist Frene Ginwala has died. What a life; what a legacy. Rest softly and rise in power, Madam Speaker. 🇿🇦✊🏾

Listening to @geordinhl at #TheGathering2022 saying that we must empower those governments that can get things done, with the mandate to do it. Yes please!!! @CapeTownTrains @Eskom_SA #crime
They don’t mess about here at #TheGathering2022. Big hitters for fundamentally important discussions.
The inimitable Glenda Gray tells us that the silver lining around the dark #COVID19 cloud was South Africa’s investment in science. We’ve got to keep this investment up if we’re going to be truly resilient. Yasss, Queen!
.@Billbrowder reminds us that much of the world stood up for us when we needed help. And it’s disappointing that we can’t do the same for #Ukraine because of our government’s relationship with #Russia and #Putin. Sies. #TheGathering2022
Former @PostofficeSa CEO, Mark Barnes says he doesn’t want to talk about the Post Office because it’s not polite to speak ill of the dead🙈 #throwingshade #TheGathering2022
Kasthuri Soni from @Harambee4Work reminds us they profit doesn’t have to be pitted against doing good. Both are possible. Big business needs to step up to get us out of our troubles. #TheGathering2022
Fascinating insights from the energy panel at #TheGathering2022. The Stone Age didn’t end because there were too few stones 🤣. So just because there might be loads of coal, doesn’t mean we gots to use it. #truethat
