Pete Carroll says winning championships was never actually the point
“It isn’t about winning the championship. It’s not about that. As soon as you win it, it’s over with. It’s in your back pocket. You’ve already done that.”
“That’s not the motivator. The motivator is to be the best you can possibly be. That’s ongoing. It never ends. I’m not a big goals guy.”
“Goals, you achieve them. To me, I want ongoing, never-ending aspirations of being great at what you’re doing. There is no one game that is the only game. There is no one accomplishment that’s the only accomplishment.”
“Can you come back again? Is that really who you are? Is that worth fighting for?”
“Can you be true to yourself? Can you really be yourself under all circumstances? No matter what happens, when you get your ass whipped in the freaking Super Bowl, when you had two in a row and you’re two seconds from doing it again, can you come back after that moment and still be who you are?”
“That was what the challenge was to me. As hard as that looked, as hard as it felt, and as hard as it was on all the people around me, I took it like this: ‘Okay, you knew this was going to happen sometime.’ ‘Are you going to be the real deal or not?’”

The job of a coach.
“My job is to always be opposite at the moment.”
Calm when chaos comes.
Confident when doubt creeps in.
Demanding when standards slip.
Encouraging when confidence drops.
Patient when frustration grows.
Give your team what the moment needs.

Thoughts and prayers to the Smith family. @10NewsHunt Always loved the local legend Billy Ray Smith and his kindness to all of us Chargers and San Diego sports fans. I was so stoked to grab a photo with him back in 1994 when the Chargers were on the playoff hunt.

4 preschoolers went on a 3-week screen detox. The results were striking.
Zero screens. No tablets, no TV, no phones.
After just three weeks:
- Their attention and mental flexibility improved dramatically
- Mistakes on cognitive tests dropped sharply
- Brain scans showed significantly higher activity in the prefrontal cortex (the area responsible for focus and decision-making)
This aligns with multiple studies, including research from the NIH’s ABCD Study and a 2022 University of Calgary paper, which found that reducing screen time in young children leads to measurable improvements in executive function and increased gray matter thickness in attention-related brain regions within weeks.
Young children’s brains are highly plastic. Cutting screens even for a short time can produce noticeable positive changes in focus, behavior, and brain function.
What’s been your experience with screens and young kids? Have you tried cutting back?

I have worn many hats in my life as a teacher, principal, gifted director, therapist, adjunct professor, author, and keynote speaker, and through every role I have learned the same truth. Success is not about titles or recognition, it is about how you choose to show up for people and for yourself. Lead with kindness and integrity. Build real human connection. Stay curious and keep learning. Take meaningful risks even when fear shows up. Focus your energy on what you can control and let go of what you cannot. Work hard when no one is watching, stay persistent when things feel heavy, and keep your focus clear when distractions try to pull you away. Surround yourself with people who know more than you do and who challenge you to grow. Expect naysayers and keep moving forward anyway. Remember Maslow before Bloom because people cannot truly grow, learn, or thrive until they feel safe, valued, and seen. Setbacks are not proof you are failing, they are evidence that you are trying, stretching, and becoming. Keep going because the work you do and the way you show up can change someone’s life in ways you may never fully see.
