There is a petition to rescue Charles Péguy's old bookshop in Paris from being turned into a coffe bar or hair dressing salon. It would be nice to find a more appropriate future for the premises. change.org/p/save-the-boutiq…

A timely reminder of some of the things we lost
THREAD: The Benefits of EU Membership Let's remind ourselves of some of the things Brexit took from us when we left the EU. (Not an exhaustive list.) 1. No barriers to trade with the world's largest trading bloc. (Bristol, Berlin, Barcelona all equally accessible.)

Umberto Eco’s ‘14 typical features of fascism’. Important note: it only needs one to be present in the public sphere for fascism to coalesce around it. The current Tory government hits at least three: 4, 5, 6 and, particularly 13. #ToryBritain #NotInMyName #GaryLinekerIsRight

Instead of throwing more red meat to the foaming mouthed Tory faithful, death penalty advocate 30p Lee Anderson should watch this. Ian Hislop destroying Priti Patel's support for capital punishment. "It's not a deterrent if you kill the wrong people."

I'm still staring at this graph showing UK wage collapse since 2010 vs peer nations. It's absolutely staggering.
Replying to @jburnmurdoch
And of course the impacts of a conscious erosion of state capacity extend well beyond health. Real wages are below where they were 18 years ago. There has not been a single year since austerity began when the average wage has matched the peak under the last Labour government.

Chart brings home my time in NHS. I started with long waiting lists in the 1980's - 18 months for hip. Then Thatcher night of the long knives where staff were cut. Then Blair/Brown. Those were amazing years - I did not believe we could get those waiting lists down but we did! 1/3

Les chooses sont contre nous.
Resistentialism is the belief that inanimate objects are out to get you: tables and shop displays bumping into you; toast landing butter-side down; sellotape hiding its end/sticking to anything other than what’s needed.
