When I bought my new Donegal home I never could have imaged having to demolish it 17 yrs later. I could never have imaged all the new neighbours having to do the same (49 of them). I have hardly a friend whose home isn’t destroyed by defective blocks, my community is in ruins
Why this hasn't been sorted by now is unbelievable

Why are buildings cracking-up in Ireland?:
An important article for those who don't understand why over 20,000 homes across Ireland are falling apart because of defective concrete. Our research has created an paradigm shift in understanding the causes.

I have said it before, and I will say it again.
Mattie McGrath said in the Dáil that they were covering up for CRH. If that is the case, then every house built since 1990 could have it.
The west coast is just getting hit first because of the harsher weather, but it is coming for them all.

Should communities at risk of flooding think about relocation?
In my opinion Yes, particularly if the houses are defective concrete ones and the families want to be relocated @kevinboxermoran @JamesBrowneTD

The chair of the EU HOUS committee Irene Tinagli, who last week was criticised by Simon Harris for saying that Ireland's housing crisis is "amongst the worst in europe" has now spoken up on the defective concrete crisis.
Good on @itinagli for raising the defective concrete crisis in the EU Parliament in repose to @lukeming, her comments say a lot “I have never seen anything like that” no one expects to see concrete fall apart like dust, it’s shocking & there is zero accountability for producers

Great creidit is due to Irene Tinagli MEP for pushing the EU Commission to answer my question. She was last week criticised by Tanaiste Simon Harris for describing Irelands housing crisis as "among the worst in Europe". She has now spoken up on defective concrete and said that
"I have never seen anything like that, literally houses falling apart"

At yesterdays joint HOUS/IMCO committee I questioned the logic of the drive for deregulation in house building. Deregulation coupled with lax market surveillance has left the lives of tens of thousands of householders in pieces due to the presence of undetected defective concrete products.
The @EU_Commission need to listen because our market surveillance system is not good enough and @lukeming is right to keep highlighting this in the EU Parliament. The Irish concrete industry has to stop making concrete that falls apart, it is inexcusable & is destroying lives😡

No problem Paul. I won’t give up on this . I recognise the questions also asked by @lukeming and @charleswardtd - and will keep up the pressure every time I can for all the families living through this nightmare

The chair of our @Europarl_EN special housing committee @itinagli was good for her word when she told me last week in Dublin she would not forget the evidence given to her about the scale of distress and trauma caused by the defective block scandal in Donegal and around the country : today she dealt with it again in Brussels

@NSAI_Standards have finally published the revised I.S.465. Whilst it is not perfect, at least now homes will be tested for the correct damage mechanism. Mica was a misdiagnosis of the cause & internal sulfate attack is now acknowledged at the cause

We have been saying that pyrrhotite in concrete aggregates the clearly broke EU concrete aggregate standards was the cause of the concrete failure in Donegal since 2022. We were happy to feed our reseach into the revisions which is available here

Good on you @lukeming for keeping the Irish defective concrete crisis front and centre with the @EU_Commission. Keep up the good work, because we need to make sure defective concrete never happens again
