Fair point. Kandel was no longer working clinically when he did his ground breaking scientific work, but still.
Egas Moniz - neurosurgeon - won it for psychosurgery (& angiography); Arvid Carlsson - pharmacologist - for studies on dopamine.

I propose:
...It is a narrative that often highlights levels of understanding despite the challenges of serious mental disturbances and should be incorporated into clinical training.
... but the relationship between (compliance and insight) is not straightforward and not be considered circular.
6. A more nuanced description of insight emerges when we look at what psychiatrists and others mean when they talk about insight....
4. A simple definition of ‘lack of insight’ (like delusion) is difficult if not impossible to achieve due to the requirement to contextualise such mental phenomena in question within a social and cultural milieu.
5. Compliance with treatment may follow from insight into illness..
Insight cont/
2. While mere ‘agreeing with the doctor’ is an inadequate definition it is not unreasonable starting point
3. Part of the construct is a (meta)cognitive style which when lacking, tends towards excessive certainty and rigidity.
