The late, great John Walsh taught for us at Stonehill over the years. Students from all political stripes benefited from his wisdom, patience, and kindness. He taught down the hall from my office and would, on occasion, come by and chat and I felt like I got an executive level seminar on practical politics from him. He would speak often of Texas turning blue. It didn't happen in his lifetime and I would just love to hear his thoughts this morning.
A tough @Patriots loss, but football season has a way of bringing old rituals back. professoru.substack.com/p/su…
Our daughters turn 24 and 25 this weekend, which seems mathematically questionable to me.
Their birthdays have always come just as summer begins giving way to fall, which makes me a little more reflective than usual about the passage of time and about how a parent’s place in a child’s life changes along the way.
We may have been bumped from the front row to the mezzanine, but it turns out the view from there is pretty good.

I wrote about how a tribute show on the Cape turned into a small experiment in generational harmony, and why, for one night, life really did feel as good as a pop song. open.substack.com/pub/profes…

Just when I thought I had Cape Cod summer figured out, my body informed me that lobster rolls, clam chowder, and middle age now come with terms and conditions—my latest Substack is about that unexpected realization.

A night with @YachtleyCrew at the @CCMelodyTent reminded me that the best part of a #CapeCod summer isn't just the music, it's the people. Captain's hats, If You Like Piña Coladas, Crazy Train, and one wonderfully eclectic crowd under the same tent.

I turned part of my #CapeCod backyard into a meadow. What could go wrong? open.substack.com/pub/profes…
Last summer I turned part of my #CapeCod backyard into a wildflower meadow. I thought I was creating habitat for pollinators.
I accidentally built luxury housing for rabbits... and unleashed my beagle's ancestral instincts.

Summer on #CapeCod + an educator who might overthink things while sitting in bridge traffic = Cape Cod Office Hours.
New essay: why “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” is both baffling and irresistible.
