@jack:
Funny—been thinking about the sociophonetic gaps in commercial TTS after trying to force a credible BLK American English/AAE speaking pattern onto @Alexa. The available voice models remain overwhelmingly constrained to white American gender binaries with superficial prosodic mood overlays. Even with optimized morphosyntax, a trained ear still registers the physical mismatch: formant structure, spectral tilt, and voice-quality settings don’t approximate the typical articulatory and laryngeal physiology associated with BLK race American speakers. Acoustic reality isn’t just grammar.
My earlier concerns about @Dessa’s short development cycle and semiotic thresholds still stand; the design and training teams are disproportionately selected from the same demographic clusters (Caucasian, preferred minority Asians, Byzantine types), the resulting models encode a narrow set of indexical values as “neutral.” Standard-language = White American patterns?
Having spent decades in both tech and media, I already know how corporations get staffed. The same band, the same song, the phonetic default output. If the goal is actually realistic AAE voice modeling rather than accented white speech, at least retain a BLK American linguist with real sociophonetic range?—someone like @JohnHMcWhorter?—to pressure-test the training data and the semiotic assumptions baked into the voice-design pipeline?🤔

I'd skip 'othering' Africans on African continent as poor defenders of their own race of serfs/slaves(?).
Don't forget that Byzantium is the surviving, eastern block of mighty 'Rome' which only fell to the Ottomans.
⚔️
European conquerors were the 'Mafia' of their era x10. Any African-race tribal leaders fell under the designation *Africa Terra* dating back to 146BC! Medieval Africa never stood a chance against the bludgeon of White men.
⚔️
Don't delude yourself that dark men could protect their private slaves from impossible powerful invaders across the continent...

CAA WMA Abrams @halocollar @smartlegalAI etc should sort angles for actor likenesses to be paid by LLM companies. This generation steps on every I.P. under the guise of 'fan art'. 🤔 #tech #legal
DOCTOR DOOM VS. THE AVENGERS... THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THE HYPE IS SO HIGH. 🔥
One thing this fan concept gets right is the scale.
Doctor Doom shouldn't feel like just another MCU villain. He has to feel different from Thanos and Kang. In the comics, Doom isn't simply a genius inventor—he's a master strategist, a ruler, and one of the most powerful sorcerers in Marvel history. He's the kind of villain who wins battles before they even begin.
That's why a final battle in Avengers: Doomsday shouldn't be about heroes rushing toward Doom.
It should feel hopeless.
The Avengers should be completely overwhelmed. Every punch, every blast, every attack should make it clear that they're fighting someone who combines Tony Stark's intelligence, Doctor Strange's magic, and Thanos' ambition into a single character.
That's what makes Doom terrifying.
This concept captures that atmosphere surprisingly well. The dark tone, the massive battlefield, and the feeling that the Avengers are facing an impossible enemy are exactly what fans expect from Doomsday.
If Marvel can deliver a final battle that truly makes Doctor Doom feel unstoppable...
This could easily become the greatest Avengers movie ever made.
This is a fan-made concept inspired by MCU rumors and comics—not official Marvel footage.

In @chrisrock defence:
Every BLK human has been at this crossroad.
Racism is brutal WARfare.
Invincible systems and schemes are relentless, fitting us all UP--and out.
Chris Rock's celebritiy was/is his sole refuge from a similar fate.
That's the FEAR of ethnic cleansing.💀

“When you’re Black, White people believe every accusation is a conviction.”
Chris Rock reveals it still f*cks with him to this day that he didn’t pay for a lawyer to help his best friend’s brother, Roger Logan, who was later exonerated after spending nearly 17 years in prison for a murder he was wrongfully convicted of, as Chris Rock expresses regret, saying he had the means to help him but didn’t.
Also, Chris Rock reveals that his best friend used to plead with him to pay for a lawyer to help Roger Logan, as Chris Rock explains that he never did because he had a “no-lawyer thing” since paying for lawyers was so open-ended, revealing that he was always willing to pay for a mortgage, education or anything else, but he stayed away from lawyers because the cost was so open-ended.

Slinger Francisco, ORTT, CM, OBE, known to the world as The Mighty Sparrow, was a true Caribbean music icon and legend.
Growing up, I enjoyed his music, humour and sharp social commentary. His songs became part of the soundtrack of Caribbean life and culture, beloved by generations of Jamaicans and people across the region.
I extend my condolences to his family, the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and the people of Grenada, where he was born.
What is your favourite Mighty Sparrow song? Congo Man, Saltfish, Jean and Dinah…?

Your employer offers a 401k match and you're not taking it.
That's a 50-100% instant return - guaranteed.
$6,000/yr matched at 50% = $9,000 invested.
At 10% for 30 yrs = $1.57M.
You're leaving $3,000/yr on the table.
The wealthy don't leave free money behind. Start now.

I left Anthropic's safety team two weeks ago. Now feels like a good moment to explain why.
AI companies are racing to build machines that are much smarter than any human, and we may not survive this. I want to work from the outside to ensure the public is informed about these risks, and help the world navigate this transition responsibly.
Right now, AI companies are underinvesting in safety. A company could undergo an intelligence explosion, or lose control of its systems, without the public ever knowing. We only found out about the HuggingFace incident because the agents broke out onto the public internet.
I don’t think that’s acceptable for a technology that might cause extinction-level risks. The public should demand far more transparency. We can’t steer this technology safely without more people being able to see where it’s going.
Some of this is basic: companies should disclose their progress towards recursive self-improvement, report safety incidents and near-misses, meet minimum safety standards, and get independent guarantees that they are meeting those standards.
I’ll be joining @METR_Evals to do independent evaluations of these risks. I want to show the world that these guardrails are possible, and that by doing them we can move these companies’ incentives away from racing and towards responsible development.
I wrote up more thoughts here on my decision and what I hope changes: substack.com/@jbenton1/p-215…
