Ian @Hoppsychology: There is too much focus on the economics within big organisations rather than the humanity of the job. “The work of a psychologist is very much about outcome and not output”
Oonagh @oonshogan : Psychotherapy doesn’t always get the same level of respect compared to counselling psychologists and clinical psychologists.
Mark @psychpolis: It can be difficult to manage the emotional toll.. It can be hard to switch off… it’s important knowing that sometimes you can’t do enough.
Oonagh @oonshogan: It is a privilege to be involved when the clients begin to heal, and to hear their stories… Helping to support them is very rewarding.
Ian @Hoppsychology : My job gives so much breadth to my life - I enjoy going to work every day… it emboldens me to fight for what I think is right.
Mark @psychpolis: I work with people who are very hurt - it’s a privilege that they chose me to be vulnerable with and share their pain with me
Ian @Hoppsychology : Counselling psychologist is like the middle ground between clinical and psychotherapy - involves assessment and therapy - job can be more narrow and more in depth!
Mark @psychpolis: a clinical psychologist’s role is to assess and treat psychological disorders, however, he isn't a fan of diagnosis & labels
“A person is a 100 piece jigsaw, but we don’t see the whole picture when putting it together.. diagnosis is only 5 pieces of the puzzle”
Oonagh @oonshogan : Psychotherapists create a space for therapeutic work - not as heavily based on qualifications as personal fit.
Oonagh @oonshogan:
Be prepared to open your own emotional Pandora’s box if you want to work 1 on 1!
Ian @Hoppsychology:
He recommends getting involved! Go to conferences, PSI,
Network - be proactive and take chances!
Mark @psychpolis:
“It’s expected to be rejected”
Don’t devalue yourself if you are rejected
