Wonderful to see our colleagues in Indonesia make important progress toward a large-scale blood lead level testing program. The information provided from this program should help the gov't and its partners prioritize and address key exposure sources and protect millions of kids.
Check out highlights from the @PureEarthID kickoff event for the new Blood Lead Level (BLL) surveillance program:

The world has already succeeded in massively reducing the burden of lead exposure for hundreds of millions of people. We’re excited to be taking the next crucial steps toward eliminating lead exposure globally, ensuring that everyone—regardless of where they live—has the opportunity to lead a healthy life in a lead-free environment.

Fortunately, while lead is a sorely neglected issue, it’s also tractable: we know it’s possible to make significant progress.
* Average blood lead levels in the US declined by 94% between the late 1970s and the 2010s.
* @leadelimination supported the government of Malawi to reduce the national market share of lead paint by more than half within three years.
* Academics and regulators worked together in Bangladesh to completely eliminate lead from the country’s turmeric supply.
LEAF will accelerate progress towards a world free of lead exposure, while directly tackling the most urgent and addressable sources for tens of millions of people.

One of Open Philanthropy’s goals is to collaborate more often with other funders. Today, we’re excited to announce our biggest collaboration to date – the Lead Exposure Action Fund (LEAF).
Lead exposure causes an estimated 1.5 million deaths each year. But until recently, total donor funding for the problem was only about $15 million/year – less than 1% of what goes toward other neglected health challenges like tuberculosis or malaria.
Thanks to our generous partners, LEAF will be able to allocate at least $104 million between now and 2027. We estimate this will roughly double donor funding for this issue.

Lead is poison–and no level is considered safe. Lead exposure affects almost every organ in a child’s body and damages their brain.
To tackle this solvable problem, @USAID & UNICEF today launched the Partnership for a Lead-Free Future #ForEveryChild.
