Update: 100 people picketed & blocked the 2 main entrances to the bldg in the morning w/ 30 ready to occupy to Chair's office. By the end of the day, the Chair said Li Jiang should have a 6 month extension and he'll do everything he can to make it happen. Let’s hold him to it!

Right now at UCSD, academic workers are rallying in support of Li Jiang, an international postdoc whose appointment is being terminated while she is 7 months pregnant, threatening her visa and her healthcare. We demand justice.

i’m so tired of abortion rights being framed around truly tragic circumstances like assault and incest. if you get pregnant & you don’t want to be pregnant, it is your right over your own body that is under siege. no one, including a fetus, can use your body against your consent.

No employer should pay so little that an employee can only see their infant on the weekend because the cost of childcare is beyond their financial means. And yet for Francisco, and far too many other UC academic workers, these are the heart-breaking choices we are forced to make.

Different “in-network” and “out-of-network” rates for the same services never made sense to me, and I still don’t really understand how my insurance works, and at this point my strategy is just hoping I don’t need any major medical care while I’m in the US 🤷🏽‍♀️

I just realized my non-US friends probably don't know how US insurance works. So lets say your employer offers insurance. They pay a portion and then you pay a portion. For a family, the employee pays on average about $400 per pay cycle, or $10,400 per year.
