Thanks to @WSJ and Paul Gigot for running a piece this morning with helpful historical perspective: Robert Showa’s “The 1894 Midterm Might Have Foretold 2026” Politics aside, we would benefit from much more of this, a longer look back than just the last four or five elections. wsj.com/opinion/the-1894-mid…

Our program on the 250th anniversary of Washington’s crossing of the Delaware and attack on Trenton is taking place Friday and Saturday in and around Trenton. We will have some of the nation’s foremost experts as our guides, and our guests are flying in from across the country to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime program, The British Empire Strikes Back. If you have a following that would be interested in this history, you will find more details and the link to email in this post: thepursuitofhistory.org/2026…

So glad you are joining us, Eileen. We are looking forward to meeting you. And if you would like to get your books autographed, bring them. As an author writing about this period, I think you will find our days especially interesting and rewarding.
Another delivery, another adventure into history! 📚 Benjamin L. Carp’s The Great New York Fire of 1776 has joined my reading pile ahead of @PursuingHistory Pursuit of History’s upcoming program in Trenton, New Jersey. Several more books are on the way. Suddenly, checking for Amazon deliveries is a daily highlight!

Thanks, Tammi. Always great to have you. And to anyone else curious about why these deep dives into history where it happened are unlike any other history event you’ve ever been to, join us in Trenton for “The British Empire Strikes Back,” November 6 - 8. It’s rare that we have spots still available, but we had a few health-related cancellations. Learn more and register at ThePursuitOfHistory.org/tren…
I’m happy to say that I am a part of this group @PursuingHistory and have been on 3 trips and my 4th is coming up in November. Wonderful speakers and sites, fun dinners, and like-minded history lovers.

And we are headed there in the fall of 2031 for the 250th anniversary of the surrender as part of our series of programs for the 250th, each a deep dive into history where it happened for a small group of people who are passionate about our nation and its history. More at ThePursuitOfHistory.org/250
America at 250 - 19 October, 1781 British General Lord Cornwallis surrendered more than 7,000 soldiers and seamen to the combined American and French forces under George Washington. Trapped on a Virginia peninsula by Washington, Rochambeau, Lafayette, and the French fleet under de Grasse, the British army had no way out after a three-week siege. As we mark America’s 250th this year, Yorktown stands as a powerful reminder that independence was won on the battlefield as much as it was written on parchment.

Great! We have people coming from California, Arizona, Texas, Illinois, Maryland, throughout the Northeast and more! We have a couple of spots left if others want to join us for this deep dive into history where it happened.
I'm excited to say I’m attending the 250th Trenton History Weekend, hosted by @PursuingHistory, in November! It features incredible historians, including @Boston1775 and Rick Herrera. Registration is still open and includes like 8 books! The itinerary includes lectures and tours. I’m especially excited for the lantern-walking tour at Washington’s Crossing. Link in the comments for anyone interested in attending!
