Earlier this week I was in Mangaluru . Though we have a house there I normally stay in a hotel bcoz
A) no one stays in the house
B) I do not like to stay with snakes and all other kinds of reptiles / insects
C) power issues .
I was at Mangalore city hence , Kudroli, Kadri and Mangaladevi temples are close by and you can visit them within 1-2 hours . After checking in I got out of the hotel to look for an auto who would take me around and found this driver .
First day he took me to all the temples at Mangaluru city
Second day he dropped me at my house for the religious rituals … the reason I had gone to Mangaluru
Third day he took me to Kateel then to Adisthal of Koragajja at Kuthar . He also took me to two other temples in Kuthar which I had never visited.
Finally he dropped me at Mangaluru airport . While dropping me he was telling me that after 2-3 days I am feeling I am leaving my own . Baari bejar aavondu undu … meaning I am feeling very bad . He asked me to call him after reaching home in Mumbai
His eyes were literally full when I went . After I reached home I completely forgot but he called me to Ask Akka have you reached home .
This is India . I had a similar experience when I had visited Varanasi too a few years back .

Lodha will always have a Hindu Temple and a Jain temple in their gated community. That means a type of buyer will come. Now I am a Nastik. I would not live in a Muslim-majority neighbourhood. I wouldn't feel safe there because I am open about my beliefs. This does not make me a bigot or Islamophobe; it makes me cautious, and I know others will not hate me for my disbelief at that level.
