"BRAIN DEATH" WAS INVENTED IN 1968 by 13 men at Harvard Medical School β not because science proved these patients were dead, but to free up ICU beds and harvest their organs.
Their original draft stated bluntly:
βThere is great need for the tissues and organs of the hopelessly comatose in order to restore health to those who are still salvageable.β
That sentence was edited out before publication because it was βtoo telling.β
The final JAMA paper never called these patients dead. It described them as βdesperately injuredβ and βa burden to themselves and others.β
These people have beating hearts, warm bodies, and circulating blood. Some βbrain deadβ mothers have even carried babies to term on ventilators.
They are NOT dead. They are severely brain-injured β and this redefinition stripped them of legal protections so their organs could be taken while they were still alive.
This wasnβt pure medicine. It was utilitarian engineering to serve the transplant industry.

To understand the mysteries of Utah, one must accept that the rock was soft clay when these handprints were made upon it.
FOOT BINDING (known in Chinese as chΓ‘nzΓΊ or "lotus feet") WAS a historical custom in China that involved tightly wrapping the feet of young girls to break the bones and stunt their growth. The practice was completely stamped out through government reforms by 1957. π
This folded beauty can be found in the lower Ugab River Valley in Namibia.

They didnβt suddenly discover that older people have higher blood pressure. They just decided more people needed lifelong medication. π
1960s medical book: healthy blood pressure for a man in his 50sβ60s was 115β145 / 65β90.
For someone in their 70s? Up to 120β160.

Reese's Pieces have no chocolate in them. The peanuts had their oil pressed out and a cheaper fat put back in.
Sugar is first, then partially defatted peanuts, then hydrogenated palm kernel and soybean oil, then corn syrup solids. Everything after that is 2% or less, and it's the dyes, the glaze, some vanillin and a little milk. There's no cocoa anywhere.
Partially defatted just means the peanuts went through a press. The peanut oil comes out one side and gets sold as peanut oil. What's left is a dry peanut flour, and that's what the center is made from, because flour holds a shape in a panning drum and doesn't go rancid. Then they put fat back in, and the fat they picked is hydrogenated palm kernel oil, which is solid at room temperature and costs less than peanut oil. You can see the swap on the panel. 38 pieces have 6 g of fat and all 6 are saturated. Peanut oil is mostly unsaturated, so that number isn't the peanut.
The shell is sugar with 4 dyes and a coat of shellac.
