Trading the Bounce Off Key Levels Support & Resistance
You know those times the market just keeps bouncing off the same price area over and over? That’s not random. A lot of traders (including me early on) used to ignore it and chase every little move with indicators. The ones who actually make money long-term often just watch how price behaves around levels that have mattered before.
Here’s the simple idea:
Find a level where price has clearly reversed or stalled multiple times. When price comes back to that area and shows hesitation (smaller candles, long wicks, or just slows down), you look for a trade in the direction of the bounce.
How I actually use it:
In an uptrend, I only care about buying when price pulls back to support (the level it bounced from before).
In a downtrend, I look to sell/short at resistance.
I don’t need perfect bounces. I’m fine taking a trade if price rejects the level with a clear rejection candle or just fails to break through after testing it a couple of times.
If it breaks the level cleanly with strong momentum, I cancel the idea. No forcing it.
The hard part isn’t finding the levels. The hard part is being patient enough to wait for price to actually get there, and then having the discipline to exit if the level fails. Most people either enter too early or hold too long after the level is broken.
Risk management is non-negotiable here. I place my stop just beyond the level (a bit of room so normal noise doesn’t take me out). If the level is wide, I size smaller. One bad trade shouldn’t ruin the week.
This approach feels boring compared to hunting perfect indicator signals, but it forces you to actually read what price is doing instead of waiting for a line to cross another line.
It’s not magic. Plenty of levels fail. The edge comes from only taking the higher-quality ones and managing risk tightly every single time.
