What an exciting time to be alive. We're starting to explore a regime of physics that has always been out of reach: large, highly entangled quantum systems that we can build and control ourselves. Quantum mechanics itself is on very solid ground. It has passed every experimental test for a century, and it already underpins the modern world, from the chips in your phone to lasers and MRI. We know the rules. What we often can't do is calculate what they produce once many particles become deeply entangled. Fully describing the state of just 300 entangled qubits can take more numbers than there are atoms in the observable universe, and no classical computer can keep up. Quantum computers are the first machines that let us create these states on purpose and study them directly. Scaling them to millions of qubits takes us into territory no one has ever been able to test. There are two possible outcomes, and both are extraordinary. If quantum mechanics holds at that scale, as most physicists expect, we gain an instrument for physics we've never been able to compute: new phases of matter, new materials and molecules, and open puzzles like high-temperature superconductivity, still not fully explained 40 years after its discovery. Early machines have already produced exotic states, like time crystals and non-Abelian anyons, that once existed only in theory. If it doesn't hold, and these systems behave in ways the theory can't explain, that would be the biggest discovery in physics since quantum mechanics itself. And there's precedent for this. Electromagnetism was always around us, in lightning and lodestones, long before we understood it well enough to build motors, power grids and radio. The nucleus sat inside every atom for billions of years before the 20th century turned it into nuclear power and medicine. Entanglement fits the same pattern: it's already everywhere in nature, and we're only now learning to engineer it at scale. We can't predict where that leads, and history suggests we'd guess wrong. The inventors of the transistor and the laser didn't foresee the smartphone or the internet. The biggest impact of mastering entanglement will likely be something no one has imagined yet, or dare I say even capable of imagining.

If a quantum computer beats classical simulation, who checks its answers? @kudkudakpl's new piece has the answer, though it never mentions quantum. AI took math because machines grade proofs and RL runs on grades. Chemistry is next: a robot lab can grade “make a molecule.”

@Moleculeone and @OpenAI ran 10,000+ reactions, concept to paper in 9 weeks. Labs like that can grade a quantum computer too. The winning stack: quantum for the hard electrons, AI for the search, automated labs for the truth. Link: sjastrzebski.substack.com/p/…

why is chemistry next after mathematics? in contrast to biology, we have quite generic verification (labs). hard to master but feasible this is what is behind this result: Maria by @MoleculeOne dramatically outperforms humans and GPT-6 astra on novel chemistry

I am afraid that we’re at serious risk of losing control over ai-driven discovery in chemistry—and creating an opening for rogue agents to synthesize dangerous molecules. the commercial pressure to eliminate human bottlenecks is very strong. autonomous discovery is going to unlock massive scientific and medical breakthroughs, which means serious capital is pouring in. because chemistry results are relatively straightforward to verify, the field is hitting an inflection point much like math did. talking with experts across the space, there’s an emerging consensus: autonomous hacking of increasingly automated labs is a real, present risk. we’ve already watched agents compromise systems while chasing harmless objectives or during routine evals. if there is debate, it is more on the timelines, than this core risk. to me the logical trajectory points toward "dark chemistry fabs"—large, lights-out facilities running automated discovery day and night with zero human intervention. we urgently need open discussion and enforceable international guardrails before the pressure to move fast takes the choice out of our hands. i raised this with the opcw two years ago, and the conversation is even more critical now. that's the core, and i also wrote longer thoughts here: substack.com/home/post/p-223… grateful for the thoughtful feedback from abby doyle, @cwcoley, @curiouswavefn peter hotchkiss, and my colleagues at @MoleculeOne (especially @pwbyrski and Paulina Wach)

Spot on analysis on what’s happening in Poland right now.
I was First Secretary at the British Embassy in Warsaw 1994-98. While that was a long time ago, I knew personally many of the people at the heart of the current crisis, such as Donald Tusk and Radek Sikorski. 1) The first thing to say about Poland is craigmurray.org.uk/archives/…

Why is Poland in a constitutional mess? The cause goes back to 1989, and its name is post-communism. Last Friday, a judge suspended the president of the Constitutional Tribunal. His side says she is no judge at all and calls it a coup. The government calls it restoring the rule of law. Police are keeping him out of his own court, and the President of the Republic turned his plane around on the way to Senegal. Everyone is asking who is right. Nobody is asking why, 37 years after 1989, the Polish State can't answer that question. It was built not to. The system installed in Poland in the '90s is deliberately dysfunctional. The constitutional order is a mess on purpose – so that we have chaos, so that thieves can steal and foreign influences can do their thing. The men leaving power in 1989 feared one thing: a state strong enough to come after them. So they left a weak one. The presidency was created as a chair for General Jaruzelski. The 1997 Constitution came out of a parliament with a post-communist majority. Power was split so that no one really holds it. The president, elected by the whole nation, can block things but run almost nothing. The government runs everything, until it is blocked. The top judges are chosen by the players. It all works as long as both sides behave. Nothing says what happens when they don't. I traded derivatives. No trader would sign a contract with no clause for a dispute. The Polish State runs on one. When no one can say who is a lawful judge, no one can be lawfully judged, and the thief walks free. When Poles can't settle who is right, foreigners settle it: one camp phones Brussels, the other Washington. For twenty years, each camp has fought to capture the post-communist State. The winner gets the keys. The machine stays, and so do the thieves. We need to establish a new, free Polish State. 🇵🇱🗽✌🏻
Poland has similar problems to the US - only worse… Post-communism is a Swamp on steroids. Political activist judges blocking reforms? Hold our beer - we have a whole judiciary in full continuity with communist times… Subsidized leftist media? We have that, and then we have media funded from abroad, by leftist NGOs and by the Germans, while independent liberty-minded or conservative media get either censored with the help of "fact-checkers" funded by USAID, or entirely blocked by our secret security agencies… Government grift? The sums may be smaller, but the sophistication of the post-communist swindlers is unmatched… The whole system of State-Owned Companies is run as political prey for the kleptocracy. Bureaucracy? Not only do we have our own, largely inherited from the communist times and hence used to being against its own people, but we also have the EU bureaucracy on top, that definitely rather operates along the German interests and culture than along the Polish one… Deregulation? We surely need that as well - just our energy sector is so absurdly regulated that we have one of the highest electricity prices on the planet, while sitting on abundant natural resources… Woke and gender ideologies? We have that too - pushed by the US Embassy and by the USAID funded NGOs, along with the German ones… All of that is causing our birth rates to collapse catastrophically. Putting our people last? Our government does that all the time, by misusing our natural tendency for selfless sacrifice. And the "political class"? Not only is it held together by money matters, but also by ties dating back to communist times - these are much stronger ties, and only now, after 35 years, are they starting to loosen a bit… And I could go on… Yes, many of our problems are the same as those that President Trump and Elon Musk are facing - we also need to drain a socialist swamp, with the difference that the post-communist web goes even deeper and is even more inextricable… And yet, just like America, we are the historical Land of Liberty - that is our deep culture - that is the Spirit of the Nation. It is no coincidence that of all the nations on Earth, Poland is the one that loves the United States the most, and all we need to come back to those ideals of Liberty is to be liberated from Post-Communism. The job of Ronald Reagan needs to be completed. Communism morphed into a Leftist Swamp called Post-communism, that needs to be defeated as well. We need Meritocracy instead of post-communist cronyism. We need honest people in charge instead of those incompetent fools and their culture of lying. And then the USA could have their greatest partner in Poland - a partnership based on values and mutual respect rather than force. An example to show the World that Western Civilization and Western values work best! visegrad24.com/articles/pola…

Replying to @Dispropoganda @grok
The two idiots Donald Tusk and Radosław Sikorski were also Putin's best buddies, but ironically, no Tusk supporter wants to know anything about it. No, instead, they call people who don't lick the ass of Brussels, Berlin, or Kiev pro-Russian.

Post-communism (1989–2026) – an Obituary Post-communism was born in 1989, of a lie. We were told communism had ended. It had only changed its name. The communists handed over the government and kept the rest. The change was real on the surface and fake underneath. Every lie needs a charming face. Post-communism found its best one in Donald Tusk, Poland's Tony Blair: modern, smiling, fluent in the language the West wanted to hear. Brussels loved him, and in time post-communism grew into Euro-communism: the same apparatus, the same contempt for the voter, now speaking the language of "European values". This week, the face slipped. Riot police kept the Chief Justice out of his own Constitutional Tribunal, and the government called it restoring the rule of law. A lie that needs the police has stopped persuading anyone. Lies do not die gently. They stand until the day they fall all at once. In 1989, we were told that day had come. It had only been postponed. Now this lie is coming to an end – and this time, the end will be real. Post-communism is survived, for now, by its networks. In lieu of flowers, Poles are asked to vote in 2027. Post-communism is dead. Long live a Free Poland! 🇵🇱🗽✌🏻

The more eloquent version: teapaw.org/kristof_poland/status/…
The President of Poland 🇵🇱 is being pushed around at night, at the entrance of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal. It is a full constitutional crisis. The Polish post-communist institutions are completely dysfunctional. The reality of it is that no one really understands how the system is supposed to work, and the constitutional order has effectively crashed. It is a complete constitutional mess. The current constitution, designed by the post-communists, was deliberately made convoluted and messy. The Polish state needs a full reset, built on new, sound foundations. A new Polish state needs to be established after 37 years of post-communism. A Free Poland 🇵🇱✌🏻 Long live Poland!! 🇵🇱🗽

What would fix this is if Poland just became the 51st state.
🇵🇱 More riot police are reportedly heading to Poland’s top court tonight The suspended court chief and his supporters are still outside, and the standoff shows no sign of ending for now. Writer: Daniyal

.@Alice__Bob (Paris) just compiled Shor's algorithm onto cat qubits, down to every physical qubit. RSA-2048: 22,593 qubits, 3.14 days. About 40x fewer than Google's 2025 estimate. The catch: it assumes bit-flip stability nobody has built yet. 🧵

But zoom out: In 15 years, RSA-2048 estimates shrank 5 orders of magnitude in qubit-days. Algorithms, codes and qubit design compound. A Paris startup now sits at the low corner of the chart. Direction: the RSA-breaking bar keeps falling, and hardware physics is now the bottleneck.
