⚠️ NYC is under a Travel Advisory today, with a Flood Watch in effect from noon through 11 PM. 🌧️ Periods of heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening. Some storms could produce torrential downpours, localized flash flooding and damaging wind gusts. The greatest flash flood risk is north and west of NYC, but heavy rain and flooding can occur anywhere in the watch area. 🚇 Be ready for rapidly changing conditions. Allow extra travel time, avoid flooded roads, and never drive or walk through floodwater. 🏠 If you live in a basement or below-grade space, be prepared to move to higher ground quickly if conditions worsen or a warning is issued. 📲 Get emergency updates at NYC.gov/NotifyNYC and preparedness guidance at nyc.gov/beready.

New York City gets one more dry, comfortable day today before the week turns unsettled. 🌨️Monday afternoon and evening: scattered showers and a few thunderstorms, mainly north and west of the city. ⛈️☔️Tuesday into Wednesday: a slow-moving front brings periods of showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain possible. Forecasters are still resolving the track so timing and rainfall totals can shift. NYCEM is tracking this with the National Weather Service and is prepared to respond. We need you to do your part as well to prepare for Tuesday and Wednesday:
🌧️ If you live in a basement or a home that floods, know your exits and be ready to move to a higher floor when heavy rain begins.
⛈️ If you hear thunder, go inside and move away from windows.

Heavy rain continues to fall across all five boroughs though some areas may have less total rainfall than others. A Travel Advisory remains in effect. Brooklyn is seeing the highest amounts so far, with 2.80 inches in Sheepshead Bay, and 2.14 inches at Brooklyn College. Queens has picked up 1.94 inches in Ozone Park and 1.83 inches in Howard Beach, Staten Island reports 1.82 inches at the College of Staten Island, Manhattan's Battery Park has recorded 1.22 inches as of this morning, and Fordham in the Bronx has only received 1 inch as of this morning. More rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible through tonight, and a Flood Watch remains in effect for the city. Rainfall this intense can quickly overwhelm streets, highways, and low-lying areas, leading to ponding on roadways, flooded underpasses. Impacts are greatest in urban and poor-drainage areas. NYCEM is working around the clock with the National Weather Service and city agencies to track and respond to conditions and keep you informed. Have a plan, gather supplies, stay informed, and be prepared to act. Sign up for real-time alerts by texting NOTIFYNYC to 692-692.

Protect yourself from jewelry scams. Older victims are often targeted by thieves who will try to use a distraction in order to swap the victim’s real jewelry with fake jewelry. Keep your jewelry hidden in public and report suspicious people to the police.
