Everyone is always rooting for you. Your parents want you to be a great son. Wife wants you to be a great husband. Your boss wants you to be a slam dunk hire. Every first date you’ve ever been on they’ve been rooting for you to get laid. Every time you started to tell a joke people hoped it would have a hilarious punch line. Your proximity to anyone is a reflection of themself, meaning the deck is never stacked against you, and your failures are completely your own
Readers added context they thought people might want to know

Thoughts... This cycle I am adding a new mental model to the way I analyze my trades, which is what I am calling Market IQ. It sounds stupidly simple, but I had to go through a ton of complexity to get to this simplicity, as it usually goes. I think about it through three things: Asset Marginal IQ, Trader IQ Range and Cycle IQ. Asset Marginal IQ is the cognitive sophistication of the marginal participants trading an asset, meaning the people setting its price at any given moment. Every chain and every token has one, and understanding it tells you a lot about how that asset should be traded because price behavior is ultimately a consequence of the people setting the price. There is an old Keynes idea that markets work like a beauty contest where you are not trying to pick the prettiest girl, you are trying to pick the girl everyone else will think everyone else finds prettiest.....Game theory later got at something similar through level-k reasoning, where one person reacts, another thinks about how that person will react, and someone else thinks one level beyond that. That is the foundation of Asset Marginal IQ. Some markets are populated by people playing several levels deep. They are less interested in whether something is bullish in isolation and more interested in whether everyone else already knows it is bullish, how much of that expectation has already been priced and what the next person is likely to do with the same information. These markets can understand complexity earlier, but they are also harder to trade because the participants are constantly trying to anticipate one another. (High IQ) Other markets operate much closer to the first level, where the distance between seeing something and acting on it is shorter. That creates different strengths because simplicity makes coordination easier and conviction tends to survive things that would send a more analytical holder into ten different branches of thought. Once price itself starts reinforcing the thesis, this can become especially powerful because the guy who keeps interrogating the trade can end up selling to the guy who never felt the need to interrogate it in the first place. (Low IQ) High IQ is inherently better for price or low IQ inherently worse....They just create different markets, which means using the same mental model for both will zero you tf out. Once you have the spectrum, you can start placing assets along it. On a higher-IQ asset, your leverage comes from understanding something the other smart participants have not fully understood yet. On a lower-IQ asset, the leverage comes from understanding how easily the idea spreads and whether the people entering need to know much before they are willing to buy. IMHO the whole game of trading comes down to thinking strategically about what other participants are going to do, which leads into the second part of Market IQ: Trader IQ Range. Most of us have a range where we naturally play well and another where we have to force ourselves to adapt. Kind of like being right- or left-handed, except here your preferred way of thinking can become the exact thing fkng you. Some of us are great when a market requires five levels of reasoning and terrible when it requires one....we simply cannot stop thinking. You see a bunch of retards buying something for a stupid reason, correctly conclude that the reason makes no sense, and then watch the token do 30x because making sense was not what the market was paying for. In that scenario, intellect becomes a positioning error because you are solving for a level of the game that the marginal buyer is not even playing. The reverse exists too.....Someone who is very avid at trading attention and instinct can dominate a simple market, then get murdered when the read shifts toward understanding some mechanic that takes more work to see and is being priced by people playing several levels deeper. Which is why I pay so much attention to IQ mismatch now. You first need to know the Asset Marginal IQ, then understand where that sits relative to your own Trader IQ Range. If you can move across the spectrum, great, because being able to play at 150 IQ when the market requires it and then happily drop yourself to 60 when the market moves there might be one of the most useful abilities a trader can develop. If you keep trying to adapt to one side and repeatedly get smoked, there is information in that too. At some point you have to accept that there are parts of the curve your brain just won’t go to, and stop trading assets in that IQ range. The third part of the model is Cycle IQ....I do not think the market stays at one cognitive level throughout an entire cycle. My suspicion is that what we have seen coming out of the bear has been a relatively high-IQ environment. If you look at the TL, good ALT traders (+ RH infra trade), have destroyed pure meme traders on returns... Which suggests the environment has been paying more for understanding something before everyone else understands it than for pure coordination and attention. There is a weird ecological analogy here that I think helps explain this pretty well. Different environments reward different survival strategies.....When resources are scarce and competition is harder, specialization becomes more valuable because there is less room for shit that survives only because conditions are generous. Once an environment becomes rich and open again, weeds suddenly have an advantage because sophistication matters less than having enough resources and enough open ground to spread faster than everything around them. Markets seem to have some version of this.... When liquidity is scarce, assets need increasingly specialized reasons to survive because capital is selective....Once liquidity begins expanding, the hurdle for survival falls and the advantage starts shifting toward things that can spread faster. Which is when I think Cycle IQ starts moving left. As the bull grows, the market has to recruit a progressively larger pool of buyers, and complexity starts becoming friction because every additional thing someone needs to understand before buying narrows the number of people who can participate. Think about it.....the thing capable of absorbing the next million participants has to be understandable by those million participants, which means simplicity starts becoming an evolutionary advantage as the cycle expands. Which leads me to an even stranger idea from evolutionary biology called Fisherian runaway, where a trait can begin as a useful signal but, once enough selection starts happening around the trait itself, the original reason for wanting it matters less and the trait keeps exaggerating itself....such as the peacock tail becoming so enormous that it actually hurts survival, yet it keeps being selected because peahens continue preferring enormous tails. Sounds a lot like the final stages of a bull market right? Something starts going up because it has a desirable property, then people begin wanting it partly because other people want it, and eventually the amount of desire surrounding the asset starts becoming more important than the thing that created the desire in the first place. At that point the market begins selecting for whatever can attract the most attention and recruit the most buyers, even if the thing itself becomes increasingly ridiculous....Peacock tail keeps getting bigger until the smartest people in the room know perfectly well that the fucking tail is too big and buy it anyway. True euphoria requires Cycle IQ to keep moving left. ATHs require progressively larger amounts of capital from progressively broader groups of people, so the game eventually has to become simpler if it wants to keep expanding..... Even high-IQ traders then have to willingly reduce the number of levels they are playing because continuing to outthink a market that has stopped rewarding that kind of thinking can become its own form of stupidity. Self-imposed retardness.....Some capacity for it is necessary if you want to trade the entire cycle rather than only the part of the cycle that happens to match your brain.

Everyone who achieved anything worthwhile not only believed it was possible but that it was inevitable. This might seem trite but it is one of the deepest truths about motivation and success there is. If you want to make $1M a year you must first believe it is possible for you personally to do so. And then you must believe it is inevitable. Both must happen long before you will ever actually get there. This is just as true with finding a great partner or achieving your dream physique or any other difficult thing. Many attribute this to woowoo or other worldy reasons but it can be explained much more simply: you will have set backs and challenges along the way, you will have dozens if not hundreds of opportunities to make excuses and give up. And inversely, you will have dozens of opportunities which you can capitalize on if you’re looking for them. If you dont think its possible, you will see the set backs as proof its not possible and give up. If you think it’s inevitable, you will see the setbacks as learning and growth opportunities and keep going. Similarly, if you don’t think its possible, you will not even look for opportunities that will get you to the next step and thus will not see them. But if you think it’s inevitable, that is ALL you will be looking for. It is really as simple as: if i tell you to name every green thing in your vision, you will fail to find all the red ones. What you look for is what you find. And what you believe is inevitable is what becomes inevitable. If you believe you are doomed to be alone or fat or poor, that is what you will become because that is what you will aim at. If you believe you are blessed to be loved and fit and rich, that is what you will become for the same reasons. If you dont believe its inevitable you will have a great life, then you must lie to yourself that it is inevitable. Repeat the end state you wish was inevitable as if it were inevitable every day for even a month and you will make more progress towards it than you have in the last decade. If you dont believe me, go try it and report back in 30 days.

The Sovereign Individual is a Bible for techno-libertarian types. The first 98% of it is all about the new liberation technologies, which allow you to avoid the confiscatory violence of the State. But the last 2% is about how all societies need morality, and unlike technology which is progressive, the truths about morality's place in society have not advanced, and cannot advance, beyond what you learn from the ancients. Many tech-libertarians conveniently ignore that excellent advice about the need for ancient wisdom.

You're ruining tomorrow every single night and you know it. When the kids are down, wife's asleep and the house is quiet. And you're still up scrolling through things you won't remember, watching another episode you don't care about, stretching out the only hour all day where nobody needs anything from you. You've done this probably a thousand times and it has never once made you feel better. You wake up groggy, already behind, already at a seven before anything's even gone wrong. The patience you needed to bank last night got traded for two hours of half-asleep YouTube. And the version of you your kids get the next morning is the taxed one, the flat one, the one who snaps over something small and then feels bad about it while making their lunch and trying to get out the door. What's actually happening is you're confusing rest with reclaiming something. Like if you stay up long enough you'll eventually feel like a full person again instead of just a guy who works and parents and goes to bed and does it again. But that feeling never really comes. There's no amount of late-night nothing that actually fills it back up. You know this. You do it anyway. So try this. Around ten o'clock, ask yourself whether what you're doing is actually recharging you or whether you're just putting off going to bed because going to bed means tomorrow starts sooner. Most nights it's the second one. Close the phone. Go to sleep. The morning will be different and you'll feel better. Get into the habit of doing that.

one key mistake I’ve learned a lot from myself & other people last cycle early bull you need to be delusional and moon boy your belief bags into oblivion don’t wait for a new ceiling because you might have the next ceiling breaker and it will be your retire play and then you have to do the exact opposite when everyone is used to 100M-500M-1B-5B coins that’s when you have to start taking profit agressive because ceilings will only lower from there something a lot of you might end up doing the opposite so thought i’d share be delusional when others are reasonable be reasonable when others are delusional

Bull market rule/note to self #46: If you've heard about something more than 3 times you must immediately stop and go spend at least 15 minutes (seriously, set a timer) learning as much as you can about it. Dudn't matter that 15 min isn't enough. It's a start, and it will probably lead to more if there's a there there. Being knowledgable about something early is usually the difference between a 10x and a 100x. — Also remember that this means *literally any word/combo of words* you've been seeing or hearing repeatedly. It can sound as redacted as cryptodickbutts sounds to anyone not one of us (to whom they are obviously, like duh, generational grails). — You are not smart enough to fade things you haven't given 15 minutes.

If you’re young and you make a lot of money this cycle this is an open letter to please actually go do something with your lives -Pay off debt -Be intentional and hang out with your family -Use financial freedom to learn new skills -Pursue a cool career arc without worrying about salary -Invest in being a great friend to people that matter to you -Start a company or a non-profit in an area you care about -Use existing capital to build an empire and extend your reach into the world (for good) -Be generous with your time -Get married & start your own family -Fund other people who are working on important projects -Make art Whatever it is… don’t fall for the psyops of lambos and watches and penthouses and first-class holidays and drugs and the mostly vapour bullshit version of rich person life that is sold to you. There’s nothing morally wrong in principle with having nice things, or any of the above stuff… go for it, but you won’t find much meaning there. I know a lot of staggeringly rich people who hate their lives. The answer instead is to act, to live, to create, to take risk, to face your life, to care, to build, to take advantage of the enormous gift of being in the right place at the right time with crypto + having the work ethic to recognize that & make use of the moment. You’ve basically been given a super mario invincibility powerup where life can now be played on easy mode & the framing shouldn’t be… "oh sick hell yeah now I can fuck off and do whatever I want at the beach"… instead it should be, "look at everything I’ve been given, I wonder just how much I could accomplish with this."
