You are heavily relying on Reverend Samuel Johnson’s 1897 manuscript (The History of the Yorubas), but you are reading it completely out of context and treating a 19th-century colonial-era text as an undisputed historical blueprint. Let’s actually look at the hard historical facts, dates, and linguistic realities to dismantle this "imported" theory: 1. The Timeline and Archaeology Defeat the "Setilu" Myth You claim Setilu brought this from Nupeland (Tapa) as an Islamic "Arab sand science." But look at the internal contradiction in Johnson’s own text: he records that Setilu was expelled from Nupeland by Muslims because his divination rivalled Islam. This places the Setilu narrative squarely within the era of Islamic expansion along the Niger. However, carbon-dated archaeological excavations in Ilé-Ifẹ̀ led by Frank Willett and Peter Shinnie prove that Ifẹ̀'s classical urbanism, sacred potsherd pavements, and ritual authority date back to the 9th to 12th centuries CE—long before Islam ever took hold in the Nupe borderlands. Ifá was already the foundational philosophical institution of Ifẹ̀ centuries before any Islamic-influenced figures from the north stepped foot in Yorubaland. 2. The Linguistic Reality: Where are the Arabic Loanwords? If Ifá were a direct "translation" of Arabic ʿIlm al-Raml, philology dictates it would retain recognizable Arabic loanwords. Look at Swahili or Hausa—they retain clear Arabic roots for Islamic astrological and mathematical terms. Yet, every single piece of core Ifá terminology is strictly indigenous Niger-Congo / Yoruboid vocabulary with absolutely zero Semitic or Arabic etymological roots. • Ikin (sacred palm nuts) • Ọ̀pẹ̀lẹ̀ (the divining chain) • Ọpọ́n Ifá (the wooden tray) • Ìyẹ̀ròsùn (baphia nitida dust) • The titles Awo, Babaláwo, and Àpètèbí. You cannot claim a system is a "direct translation" when the language lacks a single linguistic footprint of the supposed source culture. 3. A Grid is Not a Civilization: ʿIlm al-Raml vs. Odu Ifá You keep confusing the mathematical "alphabet" with the actual "literature." • ʿIlm al-Raml functions through 16 figures mapped across 12 to 16 astrological houses (Dā'irat al-falak). It calculates geometric positions and carries no massive narrative corpus. • Odu Ifá is an immense, unparalleled oral encyclopedia. Each of the 256 Odu houses hundreds of Ẹsẹ̀ Ifá (poetic verses) dealing with specific West African ecology, indigenous flora, local fauna, chieftaincy rites, and deep pharmacology. A mechanical translation of Arabic sand dots cannot magically generate thousands of epic poems completely native to the West African forest ecosystem. To say the Yoruba didn't originate Ifá because the 16-figure matrix exists elsewhere is like saying William Shakespeare didn't write English literature because he used the Roman alphabet. 4. The Fallacy of the "One-Way Flow" Your claim that "the flow of history only goes from North to South" completely ignores global mathematical history. • The Maya independently discovered the concept of zero without European or Arab contact. • Ancient China constructed the base-2 binary system of the I Ching (64 hexagrams) independently thousands of years ago. • The Yoruba developed the Òǹkà system—a complex vigesimal (base-20) mathematical logic built entirely on internal subtraction and multiplication (e.g., Aárùndíngọ́ta / [20 × 3] − 5 = 55).• A civilization that engineered an everyday spoken language based on abstract, modular algebraic calculations did not need an Arab caravan to teach them how to count to 16 or use base-2 probability. If you want to counter this, show me a single Arabic etymological root in the names of the 16 primary Odu, or show me where Al-Zanātī's texts contain the botanical, medicinal, and ecological treatises found in Ẹsẹ̀ Ifá. Until then, sit down and study deeper.
You don't need to abuse me. Just bring facts. I said İfa was imported, you are crashing out. It's the pure truth. Do you people know Reverend Samuel Johnson? He is the most respected pioneer of documented Yoruba history. In his book titled: “The History of the Yorubas,” he explicitly documented how this system entered Yorubaland. He recorded that Ifa was introduced by a blind man named Setilu. Setilu was a man from the Nupe country, what the Yoruba call the Tapa people. He was practicing this imported Arab sand divination, ʿIlm al-Raml. He migrated into Yorubaland and brought this mathematical science with him. The early Yoruba priests and indigenous custodians saw the mathematical precision of his divination. They took Setilu's imported Arab science, translated the Arabic concepts into the Yoruba language, and wove it into the indigenous Orunmila cosmology to make it their own. Some of you are arguing that only the language is different. The real question is who translated from who? The flow of history only goes in one direction. The 16 binary figures and the 256 probabilities were already documented in Arabic manuscripts by North African scholars centuries before they became Yoruba oral tradition. The Arabs and the people of the Nile Valley did not travel down to Yorubaland to learn sand divination and then take it back up North. That is geographically and historically backwards. The blueprint came down into West Africa. The Yoruba received it and translated it. Changing the name of an imported Arab science to fit your local language does not make you the originator. It makes you a brilliant translator and preserver. Bring your dates, your migration routes, and your historical manuscripts. If you cannot counter Samuel Johnson and the historical Arabic manuscripts with hard evidence, sit down and learn.

The night Deborah was burnt to death by her classmates changed my view on Islam forever. Professors, doctors, lawyers, pilots and educated folks on Twitter defended her killers because it is Hadith. South-West Muslims were talking about reading the room. I will never forget.

Islam is becoming so difficult to defend. Before you finish explaining that Islam is a religion of peace, someone somewhere has killed innocent people because Muhammad was insulted. Before you finish explaining that Muslims are not terrorists, another group is attacking people in the name of Allah because they want to impose Shariah. Honestly, how do you keep defending a religion when some of the people claiming to represent it keep giving others reasons to hate it?😞

As a Muslim, I need to say this uncomfortable truth. There are so many so-called Sharia laws that have no place in the modern world. In 2026, Muslim scholars are still defending: ❌ Stoning people to death for adultery. ❌ Killing people for leaving Islam. ❌ Executing people for insulting Muhammad. ❌ Killing people accused of blasphemy. ❌ Child marriage in the name of religion. ❌ Forcing women and girls to cover their bodies. ❌ Treating non-Muslims as second-class citizens. ❌ Giving men the authority to beat their wives. ❌ Punishing women for refusing religious dress codes. And we wonder why people question Islam? What exactly are we trying to achieve in 2026? Are we trying to build a better society or drag humanity backwards? As a Muslim, I refuse to defend injustice simply because someone attaches the name of Islam to it.

As a Muslim, I find this double standard ridiculous. You can mock Christianity, insult pastors, ridicule church services, make jokes about Jesus and even tear up the Bible. People will defend it as freedom of speech. But try the same with Islam. Suddenly, you're Islamophobic. People want you cancelled, fired, banned or even dead. Why? If mocking Christianity is freedom of speech, why is mocking Islam suddenly a problem? You cannot demand freedom to practise your religion while denying others the freedom to criticise it. As a Muslim, I don't believe Islam deserves special protection from criticism.

We Muslims are celebrating when Muslims win elections in the United States and other Western countries. And rightly so. The West has given us freedom, accepted us, allowed us to practise our religion, and even given Muslims the opportunity to hold important positions in government. But let me ask a simple question: Can Christians or other non-Muslims enjoy the same opportunities in countries governed by Sharia? In some of these countries, we struggle to tolerate their houses of worship. We don't even allow them to openly preach their Gospel, let alone imagine giving them equal opportunities to participate in government. Yet we celebrate religious freedom when it benefits us in the West. Religious freedom cannot be something we demand for ourselves but deny others. If we want the West to respect our rights, we must also be willing to respect the rights of others.

Guys, can I have your attention for a moment? Take a good look at the first frame, then read Yaseer’s responses in the second frame. This man is openly advocating the killing of Muslims who fail to observe the obligatory prayers. Islam is a cult. 🤦🏽‍♂️

The Borno State government is using the same Sharia law to sentence her to prison, even though they know she is Christian. To those saying Sharia law doesn't affect a non-Muslim, I hope you have seen this. If you like, allow them to introduce it to your states.
I just saw a news on AriseNews where a woman was sentenced to 14 years in prison for converting a muslim adult to a Christian in Borno, and people aren’t talking about it enough. Are we even okay in this country???????
