#GPS - I just heard from my publisher that a paperback edition of my book “GPS Declassified” will be published next spring.
Capt PVH Weems attended a 1932 aviation meeting in Italy. He got the autographs of many notables including WW1 aces.
Here are some details about the background of Capt Weems and my father’s request that he work on Timation (which developed into GPS).
On my last trip to the archives at Udvar-Hazy, I found several letters between my father and Weems. I’ve written about my recollections of him and the Naval Academy in the late 1960s but didn’t know that dad hired him when they were working on Timation 1 which led to GPS. His granddaughter found a 3x5 card with information about their meetings.
Here’s a letter to Weems from the Chief of Naval Operations. I love that he’s addressed as Dear Pop. Weems was 79 years old.
PVH Weems offered to discreetly help Lindbergh after his son was kidnapped. This was obviously before the body was found.
