I'll be turning the online sales off on Monday, 13 April. The old site will remain in place for a week or so after that, after which the new, non-commercial, site will replace it.

Fun fact:
These well looked-after (albeit disused) hydraulic buffers at Bradford Interchange are almost all that remains of the former Bradford Exchange station.
A Shortage of Coal!
From the Catholic Herald 1/3/1946, a mine of ads and articles revealing the hopes and fears of post war Britain. It's hard to believe I was born into this world (though somewhat later than this paper, I might add).

#OnThisDay 66 years ago the 1,387yds long Severn Bridge was partially demolished by two out of control tanker barges, ironically while works were ongoing to strengthen it to carry heavier locos. Sadly five lives were lost. Image of the aftermath from here: buff.ly/NTfGrpF

A plan of the Forth Bridge, 1880s.
The Forth Bridge is a wonder of Victorian engineering: it took six years to complete, with 55,000 tons of steel and eight million rivets. Find out more 👉bit.ly/ForthOpenBook

ALT General Elevation and plan of the Forth Bridge, 1880s. The plan shows the bridge from the side, with both the low and high tide mark. This shows that the River Forth at this section has two channels, and the central section of the bridge sits upon a raised section of rock in the middle of the river.

#OnThisDay 163 years ago the LCDR opened an extension to Ramsgate Harbour via Margate and Broadstairs. Ramsgate Harbour was replaced by today's station 100 years ago (see #OTD 2nd July), that same day Margate's lovely building was unveiled after a rebuild in a similar style.

In a nicely cyclical way, the chap in the M Door has a currently under-construction railway station indirectly named after him. Who’ll be first to name the station and the connection? 😬

ALT The official opening of the City & South London Railway's extension from Clapham South to Morden, September 1926. This view shows the arrival of the first train at Morden, with Lt Col H T C Moore-Brabazon MC, MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, standing in the open gangway door at the front of the driver's cab. A number of men are waiting on the platform.
An astonishing find by my sister - our great great grandmother's brother, George Morse drove and worked this coal mine in the Forest of Dean. With tramway, of course!
His father, our 3xgreat grandfather, had interests in several local mines.
