May 2024 on the Sun! The month was certainly noteworthy, providing us with: 1) Strongest geomagnetic storm since 2003. 2) Highest sunspot count since 2002. 3) Strongest #SolarFlare since 2017. More to come? Most likely! #spaceweather #astronomy

Today's X1.4 flare and associated "sun burp" is indeed expected to have some bite with regard to auroras. NOAA suggests G2 level conditions could develop Friday night into Saturday morning.
At G2, faint auroras can be seen (and certainly photographed) from WNY. For the rest of the country, G2 storms tend to keep aurora visibility limited to far northern states. As several active sunspot regions continue to rotate Earthside, additional eruptions could present more chances ahead to see auroras.

The total solar eclipse has come and gone, bringing with it different experiences for people across New York. It was a true once-in-a-lifetime event. The question now is, how will it be remembered? @ViktoriaKrista has more: specne.ws/b9Gf4D

That was some eclipse, huh? While the next one won't appear in the sky anywhere near Rochester, we'll still have our memories of these great Eclipse Robots that the kids made on a recent Maker Monday!

Tyler Nordgren has had a 30-piece eclipse art exhibit touring the Greater Rochester Region. He is now putting a collection of those pieces up for auction to benefit ALS research, including the Rochester, Finger Lakes, and Erie Canal posters:
