Red Sea Bunkering

Chairman received today Ms.Adeline Gabillaud, Vice-President and Regional Director Africa of CMA-CGM, at the Red Sea World Centre. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between DPFZA and CMA-CGM to further consolidate Djibouti’s position as a regional maritime and logistics hub, through the continued use of the Doraleh Container Terminal (SGTD). CMA-CGM already charters the M/V Africa Sun, an 1,118-TEU vessel wholly owned by Djibouti Shipping Company, which operates as a regional feeder. Discussions are also underway regarding the M/V Africa Liberty. Was also discussed bunkering services for CMA-CGM vessels calling at Djibouti’s ports through Red Sea Bunkering Company. CMA-CGM also raised concerns regarding the growing numbers of containers in Djibouti (SGTD)  that remain uncollected by consignees over 1000 days. CMA-CGM suggested auctionning according to Djibouti law for cargo not collected within 90 days. CMA-CGM requested the collection of their tied up containers with cargo inside: they want their empty containers back. We have currently the CMA-CGM vessel M/V BAHIA  loading and discharging at SGTD , 11 000 containers moves, mainly transhipment for the Red Sea and East Africa ports (the largest vessel call size we handled so far). We have achieved on this vessel 93 moves per hour from buoy cardinal west to SGTD berth, and back to buoy cardinal west, pilot to pilot: Djibouti pilot hands over the vessel back to the captain of the vessel. The Chairman received a delegation from the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, led by Said Ben Afane Ibouroi, Senior Manager, at the Djibouti International Exhibition Center (Red Sea World). The meeting focused on discussing ongoing cooperation and finalizing the USD 35 million trade financing dedicated to the purchase of petroleum products for Red Sea Bunkering (RSB). The meeting also provided an opportunity for both parties to renew their commitment to continued financing support and to finalize the required documentation related to the agreement. @omar_hadi @RSBunkering

Today, the Chairman received at Red Sea World a delegation of ASPIDES/EUNAVFOR, led by Commodore Michail Lampiris (EL-N), EUNAVFOR ASPIDES Force Commander The discussions focused on a shared priority: ensuring the continued freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, in a context marked by growing regional and international maritime challenges such as the resurgence of piracy activities. Chairman and the Commander underlined the importance of maintaining safe and secure maritime passages for the benefit of international trade, regional stability, and the uninterrupted flow of goods between continents. The Commander expressed his appreciation for Djibouti as a safe and reliable haven, and conveyed his gratitude to the Government of Djibouti for its continued commitment to supporting initiatives that promote maritime security and freedom of navigation. @omar_hadi @EUNAVFORASPIDES

The Chairman of Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority, Mr. Aboubaker Omar Hadi, together with the Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Ahmed Ali Barreh, attended the graduation ceremony of the 2025 class of cadets from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, presided over by the President of the Academy, H.E. Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar. This year 2025, 397 students from countries including Djibouti, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Iraq, Kuwait, Greece, Bangladesh, Syria, and Lebanon successfully graduated from the Academy. Among them, a remarkable group of 22 all Djiboutian female nautical cadets — comprising 18 deck officers and 4 marine engineers — marks a historic milestone in Djibouti’s ongoing efforts to empower women in the maritime sector. By completing their advanced maritime studies, these young professionals are now fully prepared to contribute to the operation and development of Djibouti’s state-of-the-art port and logistics infrastructure. Strategically located at the crossroads of 3 continent of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes, Djibouti continues to place human capital at the center of its growth strategy. The graduation of this new generation of all female marine officers demonstrates the nation’s vision of combining inclusivity, modern infrastructure, and global connectivity to reinforce its position as a leading hub for international trade. @omar_hadi

Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority is pleased to announce that it has reinforced its maneuvering capacity through the Harbor master’s office with the acquisition of two new-generation tugboats for Tadjourah Port and the Damergog Oil Terminal. The Saad Warsama Dirieh and Farah Hassan Ragueh have officially joined our fleet! These advanced ASD 360° DP offshore tugboats are equipped with a bollard pull capacity of 70 tons and an engine power of 5,500 horsepower.
