This morning, Minister @shyakadamien officially opened the Workshop marking the 10th Anniversary of the Kigali Amendment, reaffirming Rwanda’s commitment to advancing sustainable cooling and climate action.
In his remarks, the Minister underscored the importance of integrating energy efficiency into the phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), highlighting the significant opportunities that the transition to sustainable cooling offers for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing energy security and driving economic development.
He further emphasized the need to expand access to affordable, energy-efficient cooling solutions, strengthen technical capacity, improve refrigerant management practices and deepen partnerships to accelerate implementation, particularly across Africa.
As the international community marks a decade since the adoption of the landmark Kigali Amendment, Rwanda calls for strengthened collaboration and concrete action to translate global commitments into lasting benefits for people, economies and the planet.
Construction works to upgrade the Byumba-Ngondore Road (15.5 km) to asphalt standards have reached 67.4% of progress.

• Construction of an 11.6-kilometre expressway linking the new Kigali International Airport in Bugesera District to the existing road network is progressing, the #Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) announced on Tuesday.
• The road connects the airport area to Karumuna, starting from the Kanzenze water plant, and is expected to improve connectivity, mobility and road safety for passengers, residents and businesses.
• The new airport, located about 40 kilometres from Kigali, is expected to begin operations in 2028 after its completion schedule was revised from 2026.
• Developed at an estimated cost of $2 billion, the airport’s main terminal is designed to handle eight million passengers annually, with capacity expected to exceed 14 million in the coming decades.
