Some key highlights: The gap is an opportunity. 82% of small-business finance in Africa is unmet (IFC), and early investors get the uncrowded market.
The problem is cheque size, not always risk. Big funds can't write thousands of small cheques, so pooling small businesses is how the money gets through.
Value chains make businesses lendable. A small business with a real buyer and an order book gives investors something to lend against without needing land.
This is private capital, not aid. And Kenya’s architrchture, technological and innovative approach to grow jobs, businesses and infrastructure a great lesson on the future of doing business in the region.
