TRIBUTE TO ROBIN STUBBS 1941-2026 All of us at TUST and all Torquay United supporters, are saddened by the news of the passing of the Prince of Plainmoor, Robin Stubbs. We all send our heartfelt condolences to Robin’s wife Jo, sons Ben & Chris and all his family at this very sad time. Those of us of a certain age cannot but help having great memories of watching Robin, a true centre-forward worthy of the name. Across two spells with United, 1963-1969 and 1972-1974, Robin scored many memorable goals with probably his three against FA Cup Third Round opponents Tottenham Hotspur, two at Plainmoor and our lone one in the replay at White Hart Lane in 1965 as the stand outs. Or maybe the five he hit in an 8-3 win over Newport County in 1963. You may have your own favourites or memories of Robin playing with Tommy Northcott. In total he made 263 appearances for United scoring 133 goals. In 2020 the club made him an Honorary Life President and up until last year Robin together with his wife and son were regulars at Plainmoor. Either side of his first time at United, Robin played for Birmingham City where he was born and Bristol Rovers but Torquay was his love. Robin was a true gentleman, modest about his achievements but universally respected by all who played with him and adored by those who watched him. A real football icon in the Torquay Hall of Fame. We salute you Robin and thank you for all the pleasure you gave us. 💛💙
