🚨🎙️ Jorge Jesus on Cristiano Ronaldo announcing his retirement from the Portugal national team.
🎙️ Reporter: “Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football. What was your reaction when you heard the news?”
🗣️ Jorge Jesus:
“Honestly, when I saw the news, I felt sad. Not just because Cristiano is retiring from the national team, but because it means Portugal is losing the presence of one of the greatest players football has ever seen. He’s been part of this team for so many years, and when you think about everything he’s given this country, you realise just how much we’re going to miss him.
“It’s not only about the goals or the trophies. It’s his leadership, his experience and the way he influences the people around him. When Cristiano walks into that dressing room, everyone feels his presence. Younger players look at him, learn from him and understand what it takes to represent Portugal at the highest level. You cannot replace that overnight.
“And think about the children in Portugal. You see them playing football in the streets, scoring a goal and immediately jumping up shouting ‘SIUUU!’ That’s Cristiano. His celebration became part of their childhood. He gave millions of children something to imitate and someone to look up to. Imagine how much they’ll miss seeing him do that in a Portugal shirt.
“Personally, I would love to see him return for one more game. Not because he owes this country anything, but because I believe he deserves a proper farewell. A full stadium, the supporters singing his name and everyone showing him what he has meant to Portugal. He has earned that moment.
“Cristiano has given so much to this national team, and I hope he understands how much he is appreciated. These are the kinds of players you don’t easily forget, especially when you’ve seen what they mean to their teammates and supporters.
“But I also believe the best honour we can give him now is to keep fighting, keep competing and keep winning. We have to continue making Portugal proud and carry forward the standard he helped establish. That’s how we respect everything he has done and keep the legacy he leaves behind alive.
“I wish Cristiano nothing but happiness and success in the next chapter of his life. He has given enough to Portuguese football, and he deserves to enjoy whatever comes next. He will always be one of ours.”
