A request from a researcher who was assisted by artificial intelligence technology led to an interesting journey through historical newspapers and a cautionary tale of the trustworthiness ChatGPT. OHS Reference Librarian Nikki Koehlert shares the story.

We don’t consider abundance to really be the issue with streaming. Our collection contains more titles than all the major streaming services COMBINED! As convenient as streaming is, it’s primarily designed to be consumed rather than curated or cultivated.

Mark your calendars: DEAFULA (1975) - the first ASL feature film + shot here in Portland - will screen on #16mm at the Hollywood Theatre on Oct. 12th. I believe this is the first filmmaker approved public screening since showing at MoMA in 1997.
Tim Smith's amazing short films, all but one made right here in Portland, will screen next Tuesday (7/25) at the @HollywoodTheatr - in partnership with @OrHist and @allarvickfund. Highly recommend! Filmmaker (hopefully) in attendance! #PDX
You can read more about Tim in this @Oregonian profile from 2021 by @douglasmperry - screening at the time as part of a limited "online only" program due to Covid.

Extra credit prompt from my PSU “Film Archives” class final exam: ask ChatGPT to create a film pitch using what we learned this term. The Zapruder film, Heavy Metal Parking Lot and Ro-Revus appear to be key influences.
It's that time of year...the Silverton Pet Parade is Saturday (May 20th). Since 1932, publicly celebrating our pet dogs, raccoons, snails, horses, cats, clams, opossums and more.

Happy to answer questions and/or connect any OMSI (or PAM?) workers with folks who can help. Would love to see more PDX cultural org employees enjoy the benefits of #union representation - something starting to take root now at museums across the country.
