>first time ever getting a fact about fascism right
>gets a community note
fascism is when you nationalise private companies
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Yes. Fascist economics was corporatist, and viewed private businesses as organs of the state. Private enterprise was permitted so long as it followed the directives of the state. They nationalised and privatised on political whims.

Can we stop pretending the McCains had no agency breaking with AZGOP?
Cindy: worked for Biden, fundraised for Hobbs
Jimmy: campaigned with Gallego, Hobbs appointee/nearly her Lt Gov
Meghan: “No peace, bitch!” when Kari offered an olive branch
They actively CHOSE the other team.
Crazy how the only people actually honest about @THEVinceRusso's contribution to the Attitude Era are people who are no longer connected to WWE.

This pair currently own the indie comic Western genre. That greatest bastion of American individualism. That time that is almost unfathomable where a man was judged by his character, and accomplishment mattered.
GOING LIVE in a few minutes to chat with @RazorFist about his newest comic!

I'm not an electon-denier, nor an election-denier-denier. But when numbers don't line up with a reasonable explanation we can't have confidence in elections.
My first line of suspicion is when a party says, "You can't look and you are suspect for asking". Democrats perform a lot of drama about Democracy but a lot of suspicion about asking basic questions about the security of voting.
If Abbot and many Republicans performed normally, why did Democrat votes in a midterm perform so much better than a general election under Biden or Harris or any other midterm?
I've seen how Abbott performed better than previous elections but his Democrat opponent got 1.7 million more votes than Harris did. I looked up census data and asked how many people migrated from Liberal states like California to Texas in the last ten years and it was only 1 million people. Assuming 100% voted in the midterms for Abbott's opponent, it still falls short of any explanation I can think of.
Maybe some Democrats can explain their reason. Did the party not have a good get-out-the-vote in 2020 and 2024 and suddenly they discovered one?
Or maybe a Republican can explain why we thought a cheat happened in 2020 and somehow Democrats where able to create enough fake mail-in ballots or have enough illegals voting to account for 1.7 million votes? Accusations aren't enough without hard evidence, and if 1.7 million people cheated, someone would have a smoking gun. Not a magic "Soros did it!" but real evidence because it would be everywhere.
No Democrat can convince me not to look or ask the question but no Republican should be satisfied with an easy accusation. The Arizona audit in 2021 made the most sense because people actually looked at ballots and tried to use forensics to explain something, even if it didn't produce anything reliable.
If no explanation is needed, then I hope Republicans implement the same system the Dems did for 2028 and flip New York, California, Washington, Maine and Oregon with 1.7 million "voters" coming from nowhere and no investigation or explanation allowed. If this is how elections are done, then both sides need to be able to do the same thing.
I ran the numbers.
With the exception of Ken Paxton*, Texas Republican midterm statewide candidates slightly outperformed historical expectations.
Democrats UNPRECEDENTEDLY outperformed them.
Prior to 2026, it was rare for a statewide race candidate to outperform the presidential candidate of two years prior.
In 2026, EVERY SINGLE STATEWIDE CANDIDATE obtained more raw votes than Kamala Harris.
This has never happened before.
Methods.
I asked: What average % of the presidential vote does each Texas statewide race candidate get in the midterms, for each party?
Then I compared what each candidate was expected to get, based on historical trends since 1992**, to what they actually got in 2026.
The present figure is after adjusting for which party had a president in office; midterm turnout is on average higher for parties who lost the presidency.
The unadjusted version is in the next, threaded post, for completeness.
* Paxton would have lost even if he had performed at slightly above historical expectation, as other Republican candidates had, as you can see in the right-hand figure.
** Texas and national politics worked very differently before the 1990s, with many conservatives voting Republican for president and Democrat for state office. They are not comparable.

Half the people here are shameless shapeshifters. You never know what they actually believe, or if they believe anything at all. They live by the motto, "Whatever is trending is true, and anyone who doesn't agree is my enemy."
