🚨🎙️ Karim Benzema on who deserves to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or:
🎙️ Reporter: “The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is today. Who do you think truly deserves to win it?”
🗣️ Karim Benzema: “I know it might sound strange choosing Lionel Messi, and people will say, ‘You’re a Real Madrid legend. Why not Mbappé or Bellingham? What about Harry Kane?’
But honestly, I don’t care about those arguments. They’ve all had spectacular seasons, but there’s more to the Ballon d’Or than people actually think. “We no longer bother to look at what a guy does on the pitch, just who has scored and the next day, we consider him the best. It’s happened to me. I don’t play a good game,
I score and they see me as the best. I don’t really like this type of football. “And honestly, I don’t understand why the Ballon d’Or should become an award for whoever scores the most goals when we already have awards for goalscorers. If scoring is the only thing that matters, then just give the trophy to the player with the highest goal tally and stop pretending we’re judging the best footballer in the world. Being the best player and being the top scorer are two different things.
You can score a hat-trick and still have someone else control the entire game, create everything and make you look better. “That’s why I look at Messi differently. At 39, he’s still doing things that players in their prime can only dream of. He’s not just waiting for somebody to pass him the ball so he can score. He takes responsibility, beats defenders, creates chances out of nothing, dictates the rhythm of a game and carries his team when everything becomes difficult.
He can decide a match without scoring, and that’s what people seem to forget when they reduce football to statistics. “Honestly, when I watch Messi, I sometimes wonder what else people want from this man. He has spent nearly two decades making football look easy, and now, at 39, he’s still competing against younger players and showing them things they cannot do themselves.
Most players at that age are thinking about retirement, but Messi is still giving defenders nightmares. We’re talking about a player who can score, assist, dribble past three opponents and create the winning chance in the same game. That’s not normal football. That’s extraordinary talent. “People said he couldn’t do it outside Europe.
They questioned the level he was playing at and suggested he wouldn’t survive against the biggest clubs anymore. But he went into a competition featuring countries from different parts of the world and showed his quality against top opposition. He didn’t spend his time arguing with critics or trying to convince people with interviews.
He went onto the pitch and answered them with his football. At some point, you have to stop moving the goalposts just because you don’t want to admit how special someone is. “And look at what he has done for Argentina. Taking your country to a World Cup final and delivering performances at that level is something you cannot simply dismiss.
His influence on that team goes far beyond goals. He creates belief, gives his teammates confidence and makes the difference when the pressure is at its highest. That’s what greatness looks like.
Football won today to be very honest, imagine Ronaldo fans pushing for Mbappé who hasn’t won any major trophy in 2 years to win the Ballon d’or 😂

Harry Kane's 2026 Ballon d'Or acceptance speech:
🗣 "Wow, wow, wow. First of all, I'm almost speechless. Thank you to the Ballon d'Or organizers for putting on this amazing event. The fact that it's being held here in London, of course, makes it even more special for me. It was a good omen for me, so thank you very much.
To stand here and hold this trophy is an unbelievable feeling. It is a moment I have dreamt of since I was a young boy kicking a football around in the park. There have been so many highs and lows along the way, but this makes every single bit of hard work entirely worth it.
I want to say a massive thank you to my family. To my mum and dad, thank you for the endless sacrifices you made when I was growing up—driving me to training in the freezing cold, believing in me when others didn't, and keeping me grounded. To my amazing wife, Kate, and my beautiful children, your love and support are my ultimate foundation. This trophy belongs to you just as much as it does to me.
I also need to thank my teammates, the coaches, and the staff at Bayern Munich and with the England national team. Football is a team sport, and I wouldn't be standing on this stage without the incredible service, dedication, and support from everyone around me. I also want to send a quick get-well message to my club manager, Vincent Kompany—we are all thinking of you and hope to see you back on the touchline very soon.
Finally, to any young boy or girl watching this tonight who has a dream: never let anyone tell you that you aren't good enough. I was released from an academy when I was young, I had to prove myself on loan spells, and I had to work for every single opportunity. If you work hard, stay dedicated, and never stop believing in your abilities, anything is possible.
Thank you so much, everyone. This is a night I will never forget."

🚨 Kylian Mbappé reveals what he told Lamine Yamal after Harry Kane won the Ballon d’Or.
“I saw Lamine sitting there looking sad after Harry was announced as the winner. I could tell he was disappointed, so I decided to speak to him.
I told him, ‘Lamine, listen to me. If you really want to win this award, come to Real Madrid. I'm serious.’
He looked at me, probably wondering if I was joking, but I continued.
‘The good season for Real Madrid starts now. If we start winning trophies, if we dominate Europe and win the biggest competitions, the Ballon d’Or will come. That's how football works.’
I told him he was an incredible player and that I respected what he had achieved at Barcelona. But sometimes, you have to think about your career and the opportunities in front of you.
Then he answered me.
‘Kylian, with all due respect, I will never join Real Madrid. Never. Not now, not in ten years, not even until my death.’
I was surprised by how quickly he rejected the idea. He didn't even want to entertain the conversation.
I told him, ‘You're letting your emotions get the better of you. I'm talking about winning the biggest individual award in football.’
But he looked at me and said, ‘I can win it at Barcelona. I don't need to join Real Madrid to prove I'm the best.’
That answer told me everything about his mentality. He was disappointed, he was hurt, but he wasn't prepared to abandon his club because one award didn't go his way.
I understand that. Barcelona is his home, and he clearly feels strongly about the badge.
But I still believe that if Real Madrid starts winning trophies consistently again, our players will be right back in the Ballon d’Or conversation.
As for Lamine, I gave him my advice. He made his decision very clear.
**Apparently, you can offer Lamine Yamal the Ballon d’Or, but if the price is wearing a Real Madrid shirt, the conversation ends before it even begins.”

🚨 Lamine Yamal on breaking down in tears after Harry Kane was announced as the Ballon d’Or winner:
I won the World Cup with Spain. I won LaLiga with Barcelona. I played at the highest level, delivered in the biggest matches, and somehow, when the biggest individual award in football was announced, I was left sitting there watching somebody else lift it.
And listen, I respect Harry Kane. He is an incredible striker, and nobody can take his goals away from him. But are we seriously saying winning the Bundesliga was enough to put him above me after winning the World Cup?
Mbappé finished second without winning a single major trophy. So what exactly are we rewarding here? Goals? Trophies? Individual performances? Or does none of that matter when the voters have already made up their minds?
That was what hurt me the most. It wasn't simply losing the award. It was sitting there wondering what more I was supposed to do.
I looked at the stage, I looked at the trophy, and I realised that no matter what you achieve, people will always find a reason to give it to somebody else.
I'm young, and I know I'll have more opportunities. But that doesn't make this any less painful. You don't get to that stage by accident. You work your entire life for moments like that.
If winning the World Cup and LaLiga only gets you third place, then honestly, what is the Ballon d’Or measuring anymore?
I congratulate Harry, but I'm not going to pretend I'm happy. I wanted that trophy. I believed I deserved it, and I won't apologise for feeling disappointed.
Tonight, I cried because football has always been my dream. For one moment, I thought the dream was finally coming true.
Instead, I had to watch somebody else live it.”
