A narcissist/psychopath will push a person to the edge. They’ll intimidate, demean, provoke, manipulate, lie, cross sexual boundaries, control decisions, alternate between building the victim up & undermining them, misrepresent them to others. Then they will say the victim is crazy.

Just because they’re “family” doesn’t mean you have to tolerate lies, chaos, drama, manipulation and disrespect.

Something I have observed, narcissists will typically accuse non-narcissists of being “narcissists.” Especially the people who are able to see thru the real narcissists manipulation tactics and threaten them.

If you were a kid who had to deal w/ very adult sh*t growing up, like coping w/ sexual victimization or managing the adults around you, you likely missed out on "kid" stuff-- which is why, as adults in recovery, so many of us feel strangely "young." But also very, very old.

Not all doctors and therapists have kindness and empathy Some took up the profession because they paid well They get frustrated easily when you ask a little more or take up their time The ones who can empathise with you most are the sufferers themselves You learn more from them than the doctors and therapists

The best minds in mental health aren't the docs. They're the Trauma Survivors who have had to figure out how to stay alive for years with virtually no help. Wanna learn how to psychology survive under unfathomable stress? Talk to abuse survivors. Dr. Glenn Patrick Doyle

Being called a radical for believing every person should have enough food to eat, a roof over their heads, and access to healthcare and education is wild. But here we are.

It took me 9 years to understand this, I’ll teach it to you in 3 minutes. Here are 12 uncomfortable truths about life... 1.) Never tell everyone everything. Even with your family, maintain your privacy.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but, if people wanted to, they would. If someone wants to fix their relationship with you, they put in the effort to have uncomfortable conversations. If someone wants to love you, they put in the effort to get to know your love language. If someone wants to be part of your life, they put in the effort to be present. It’s really that simple. It’s just hard for you to accept because that means admitting to yourself that some people don’t care about you the way you care for them. For that, my heart goes out to you. That hurts to know. But remember, rejection is part of life and necessary for growth. And the sooner you accept that, the sooner you can move on to starting over—not from scratch but from experience this time. – at Vancouver, British Columbia

I keep reading nice Tweets about how you don’t have to be a mother to do mothering, and that women do it for friends, aged parents etc and that is undoubtedly true and well meant. But it is also OK to be a woman and not have the slightest inclination to mother anyone at all

i quietly remove myself from situations now. i’m not over explaining myself, i’m not going back & forth, i’m not looking for closure, i’m not causing a scene, nothing. you’ll just never hear from me again. i’m done overextending myself for others.

your friends absolutely can (and one may argue, should!) do things like show up at your door when they haven't heard from you in a while. we do ourselves a disservice when we make romantic relationships the only context for us to experience genuine + *proactive* love and concern

People don’t get what it means to be in survival mode as a child. While some are building social skills, kid survivors are building defenses. As adults, some are building families while survivors are rebuilding what they never had to begin with. Peace to those who know this pain.
