FWIW this does not get better. How do you expect players to have belief in the next coach when the people appointing him clearly don’t 100% believe it’s the right choice. A large part of leadership is perception. Better a fast decision than no decision.

The worst part is the new manager will have to come in and play the toughest run of fixtures this season in his first few games. Same with Carrick last season. First 2 games of his tenure: City and Arsenal. At least plan the succession well, man. Useless in all aspects

Ironically, Ratcliffe became everything he critcised the previous Woodward-Arnold regimes of: 1. Appointing incompetence at the top 2. Zero accountability 3. Jobs for boys (just check the number of ex-City hires in the last 24 months) 4. Abandoning long-term plans and common sense on a whim (the decision to go for Amorim just because City were thinking of replacing Pep with Ruben, without considering if they would be able to provide him with the squad he needs to play a back 3) 5. No club-specific 'game model' (even though they insist there is one) 6. Pulling the rug after a good season The only major difference is Woodward had money to play with. Ineos don't have that luxury now, so we're probably worse off.

Jim Ratcliffe built his petrochemical empire by buying underperforming chemical and industrial assets on the cheap and then injecting operational efficiency to increase revenue. At the heart of it was having the best people at key positions. So what baffles me is why he does not do the same at United. United's biggest operational issues, namely Berrada and Wilcox, are seemingly protected despite getting every single decision wrong in the last 3 years. Would he have tolerated such cockups in one of his businesses? He would have surely opted to get better people. So why not at Utd?

This 👏 👏
Both hired based on their performance in an environment where they had an artificial advantage of financial doping juicing up their credentials. Drop them in a real club with real issues and they've been found out.

The thing is, considering how we recruit & rebuild, a manager needs to perform beyond the usual expectations at a comparable club to just survive. They need to be far better tactically, make the most out of the limited resources, be ready to inherit expensive messes that just won't leave, have no room to make any tactical error, be excellent man managers to stroke the massive egos of our players, and basically get more out of the group in every department to succeed. Carrick fell well below that level this season and should rightfully be gone, but it's no wonder why so many managers fail at this club. The club hang them out to dry after every few months. The worst part is I don't see it changing any time soon.

The sad part is Ineos were more than willing to pay £10m to get Ruben Amorim out of Sporting but won't pay up to get true visionaries like Emery out of Villa. They are now searching for managers with a <is a free agent> filter, and you know what you are getting with that 🚮

Never thought I'd see Bruno get dropped for disciplinary reasons, but here we are.. Right decision
EXC: Bruno Fernandes dropped to the bench by Michael Carrick for Bournemouth visit. #MUFC head coach aiming to turn around team’s results in a pivotal moment for him. Fernandes, out of form, criticised tactics in Como. Details ⬇️ nytimes.com/athletic/7722277…

You can't help but root for Carrick to turn things around after that press conference. But it will be difficult. He must make some difficult and bold decisions, including axing those who questioned his authority in public. This is not the time to be passive.

The so-called 'game model' has named 3 replacements with completely different styles of football, including a 3 atb manager. Just admit there’s no grand plan and you’re winging it & we can all call it a day. At least Woodward was honest about his incompetence. This is worse 🙆‍♂️
Michael Carrick goes into Bournemouth game leading #MUFC, with execs understanding a complex job. Nobody is making predictions beyond that. Eddie Howe has most compelling case for some at club, if change. Detail on Julian Nagelsmann, Antonio Conte ⬇️ nytimes.com/athletic/7715370…

Speak out against Herr Wilcox over transfer failure: Apology the next day. Speak out against the manager over tactical failure: Voicing understandable anger Okay
Excl: Bruno Fernandes will not be stripped of the #mufc captaincy and is unlikely to be disciplined by the club following his criticism of the coaching staff after the defeat to Como. Disappointment with comments, but wider feeling is he was voicing understandable anger at the manner of the defeat. Meanwhile, we’ve been told Carrick will take charge of United as usual for Sunday’s game v #Bournemouth but there is growing concern among club bosses about the team’s poor run of form. No plans beyond Sunday’s game.

My overarching point about the entire thing is that changing the manager is the easier job. But changing the structure and key people involved in it takes some doing. As things stand, Wilcox is about to make his 4th permanent managerial decision in 2 years. Why? For starters, the accountability of the last 2 years starts with him. First determine if he himself is fit enough to lead the search for the next manager.

You know how disconnected the suits are from the real football world is they approved the All or Nothing series without considering whether it would be prudent to air our dirty laundry to the outside world. They saw the 💰 💰 and signed the documents. Amorim vetoed it last year. Carrick far too weak. Now everyone will get to see their incompetence in 4k. Serves them right
