Three ponds connected by a new planting of 1,200 trees. Seemed like a good idea to me...
Our daughter has decided that whe will plant trees to meet the community goals of the Kings Scout Award. So here she is doing the first bit of prep, mowing the site. It's a field end right next to a byway so will benefit the public too.

You fight the old shower valve out, go to put in the new one then notice it's about as straight as the Tower of Pisa. Aarrghh, quality control nowadays is just shite.
Credit where it's due to Di Vapor parts though, who have confirmed shipment of a replacement out within 30 mins of me contacting them.

Not sure what is happening with the @CambsCC woodland creation scheme as it's been total radio silence since July. If it's happening this winter ground prep needs to start now, before it gets too wet to get down the droves (I'm an optimist at heart!)
The same time I planted the acorns I shoved some 6" Elder stick in the gorund, just to see what happened. They have grown to over 4 ft tall in a year and are nearly an inch across at the base. I'll cut most of the top growth off before planting them = new batch of cuttings
Here is the problem with growing Oaks in our raised beds. This is from an acorn planted Oct '25. It's too small to plant out, but if roots get any bigger it will be a nightmare to lift. Commercial growers would undercut them, I'm trying potting them into cells to encourage spread
Just finished potting up the volunteer Field Maple, I ran out of compost the other day. 15 in this crate.
Is that some new local magazine we've had through the door? Nope.
What an utter waste of paper. They've got so little to say they even repeat the bar chart!
I know Anglian Water has a lot of leaks, but they cover 8 Counties, not just Cambridgeshire. Does no-one proof read this stuff?
