There is one button that Manchester United can press that guarantees them - at least in the short term - intensity, high standards and winning football. Surely they have to push it? How can they justify not doing so? nytimes.com/athletic/7706188…

France is in flames (yet he wants to rejoin the EU). Trump is selling out Ukraine, cosying up to Putin again A cost-of-living crunch is looming this winter, especially fuel bills. He still hasn’t told us how or when defence spending will reach 3% GDP. Inflation is rising once more, as are interest rates. Russian forces are threatening our infrastructure, especially undersea data and energy links. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed, our Gulf allies are under attack. And PM Burnham drivels about this!! It’s like the opening sketch from Saturday Night Live.
TikTok star Andy Burnham is back on TikTok displaying all his talents as an overblown local councillor, addressing the serious situation in Europe and how to stop the boats. Only kidding. He's talking about how to be good boys and girls on public transport. On TikTok 🤓👍

You have no independent view on Zelensky, Putin or the conflict. You wait to see what the current consensus is on the populist right, then regurgitate it.

Because we've seen how Reform deal with disagreement at the Conferences
No, because that is not who Reform people are. Go to a conference and find out the reality.

There was a lot of fanfare online in the summer around the Santos and Tielemans deals, essentially because #mufc had signed midfielders. Had major misgivings about the Santos deal (£50m for a Chelsea squad player farmed out on loan). He now can’t get a kick. Tielemans was an opportunistic move after the Ederson deal collapsed and looked a decent buy as a squad player. Yet he’s the only United player who’s started every game.

Kemi Badenoch has one objective. To show the Tories, not Reform, are the only serious alternative to Labour. As people make that assessment they should consider this. The woman Reform want to take charge of our nation's education system is currently handcuffed to Katie Price.

Holiday or not, come on @GNev2 your legal team must have set out a position for you by now which allows you to discuss the biggest scandal English football has ever seen? You’ve never been this quiet on anything even half as significant as this. Business first, I suppose.

Hello @LucyMPowell As MP for Mcr Central which includes Wastelands, is there anything you'd like to share about your little visit to Abu Dhabi & your role cheerleading for @ManCity's corrupt owners in the UAE APPG 👇 Or do we have to wait for it all to come out in the wash? 🤔
UK Education Secretary and #ManCity fan, Lucy Powell: “Can I just say to all those United fans who have been gloating all week - you're still crap and you know you are!”

RT @sampeoples_: Abu Dhabi owned Emirates angry that Abu Dhabi owned City have been found guilty by the Premier League. Go figure.
This quoted post is unavailable.
Don't want to stick my tin-foil hat on just yet, but has there been any investigative journalism into the links between the Emiratis and Andy Burnham's mayoralty? The local govt -- property development nexus in England is bent at the best of times, and there's something off about how quickly he's come out to bat for the Man City ownership.
“I would be really concerned to lose them.” Prime Minister Andy Burnham on the possibility of Manchester City’s owners selling up. What?! These are owners found guilty of serial breaches of the Premier League rule-book by three judges on an independent commission after a lengthy investigation. Owners who outraged other clubs and countless fans by flouting the rules and inflating sponsorship income with the Disguised Funding Scheme. Owners who misled auditors and regulators, who threaten to bring this Premier League season – and, potentially, future seasons - to a standstill by their appeal, deny, delay tactics. Owners who are patently not proper custodians of a famous, historic club. Owners who many hope will sell up and ship out after bringing such shame and sham contracts to the game. So these are astonishing, alarming comments from the PM. “I do actually thank the City Football Group and the wider ownership for the money that they didn't just put into the Etihad and the campus around it but also into the city," Burnham told the BBC’s Chris Mason. Come on, PM. Read the room. Read the commission’s report. Read the belligerent statements from the Abu Dhabi owners and their chief executive like Ferran Soriano. Rather than thank CFG, perhaps thank the diligence of the Premier League in seeking to enforce its rules and protect the national sport. Perhaps thank the three judges for their pain-staking work in sifting through reams of evidence and coming to their considered conclusion. Burnham spoke as a politician seemingly with one eye on diplomatic and trade links. He spoke as a former mayor whose city benefited from investment in east Manchester by Abu Dhabi. “They've been such a huge partner in the building of modern Manchester and obviously the building of Manchester City into the global force that it is.” And how was that building financed? Burnham spoke as a politician and not the football fan that he truly is. The lifelong Evertonian is usually pretty sound on football matters. He misread the mood of many fans not wanting the possible return of drinking in Premier League stands but that was a rare misstep. This is far worse. This makes him look out of touch with the prevailing mood. He was speaking at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Maybe he should head to Anfield on Sunday week and witness the anger felt towards City. Burnham did add that he wasn’t getting involved in the process and that City had a right to appeal if they felt harshly treated. But how does the PM’s sympathetic words for controversial owners help the independent football regulator charged by Government with leading the fight against those who risk the credibility of their club, who play fast and loose with the rules and who damage the integrity of the national sport? How frustrating if Burnham’s words embolden City's owners and Soriano further. Bit of an own goal by No 10.

I'm shocked. Absolutely shocked by this revelation.
Andy Burnham has said he would be “really concerned” to lose Manchester City’s owners as a result of the club being found guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League rules | ✍️ @martynziegler, @Lawton_Times, @_pauljoyce thetimes.com/sport/football/…

Kick racism out of football. Unless the other team is Jewish. Then you can refuse the handshake, bow your head through their anthem, and still get called principled. Ireland did all three in Debrecen last night. UEFA’s rainbow Respect flag was planted ten yards away. No sanction. No statement. No problem. Same sport that bans a banana, a chant, a gesture. Different rules when the target is Israel. #KickRacismOut #UnlessItsJews

Scottie Scheffler also confronted the guy in the crowd that yelled: “There’s no place for that.” Fair play to Scottie
Scottie Scheffler just gave Nico Echavarria a 30 foot putt for par on the 14th because a fan yelled on his tee shot and put him off. Hole halved. Pure class from Scottie 👏

NEW: Burnham drops the most perfect Burnham quote yet en route to NY Asked about his slagging off of Trump, the PM came out with this GEM: “politicians say things throughout their career, but now the important thing is to focus on the moment you are in” His entire mantra there

We’ve badly misjudged pre season yet again, the team looks sluggish & unfit. Amorim at least had the players conditioned well. Shoehorning in Rashford hasn’t worked & Casemiro a huge miss. This is also a team that prefers being the underdog and struggles when expectations rise.

I see we’re again at the stage where wanting a manager to do well makes him immune from criticism in the eyes of some. Because blind faith has worked so well in the past.

Perhaps we can make this photo go viral again. This is Officer Chris Amoroso of the NYNJ Port Authority Police. This photo is from September 11, 2001, with the towers behind him. After saving this pregnant woman Chris decided to go back in for his 5th time. Despite having a wife and baby at home, despite being only 29 years old, Chris and 59 other Police Officers and 343 Firefighters never made it back out. You can curse us out, spit, defund and disrespect us, but when you call we will be there. Thats what makes us different. Im not looking for responses especially political ones. Just remember Chris and share his story. No sports number on his chest, no large contract no anthem to kneel to, just a real hero. #NeverForget
